Tom McClintock is one of CA rare republicans. Tom is a straight shooter.

So, give him a listen and figure out if you want bankruptcy or sanity?

    Whom supports a balanced budget?

The last time a Balanced Budget Amendment came up for a vote in the House, Paul Ryan voted against it, and Sean Hannity opposed it.

So that tells you where the Republican Party probably is on it.

Yes, it can't be done until the constitution is amended. As well as having the line item veto. I did not know those two opposed it.

a wealthy kid who has spent his whole adult life living off taxpayers is certainly someone we should listen to about government priorities.

If we want to restrain unnecessary spending and have a budget we can live with, there is only one way to do it. I've said it before, and I'll say it again ... Make us pay for it.

I guarantee you ... If we actually paid for our spending, spending would come under control. Until that happens, or until we are in crisis, there will be no political will to do it.

I believe that a balanced budget is theoretically possible..........
but if it is not handled in the right way it could be a disaster.

Although I dislike most of his policies.... i do believe that President Obama and his administration deserve credit for handling the 2008 and 2009 debt crisis with relative wisdom.....

That's why I think we need a balanced budget. If each gimme program actually cost people money, and they could feel it, the populace would get serious about spending.

Exactly. And this is just another reason why I consider myself to be a conservative, but by my own definition of "conservative". I think paying for our spending is a conservative value, or at least it should be ... But when you talk to mainstream conservatives about "paying for it", they hear "tax increase", and so they are against paying for it. I am conservative, and I am unabashedly in favor of paying for it. You want government spending to come under control? Make us pay for it.

Yes.... the economy of Canada has some significant differences from the USA model but.........
what I have been advocating for my nation can be modified to fit the USA economy and Federal Reserve system.

Obviously we need huge tax cuts for billionaires, like donald. Because that worked so well in the past to reduce the deficits.

    He's not a "straight shooter."

He says "we are at the cap of the upper level of revenue our economy can generate." Meaning, gee, we just can't possibly raise taxes.

That's a load of crap. Last year, the government collected only 17.6% of GDP in revenues. That is more than two percentage points lower than it collected in 2000. Which equates to almost $400 billion in less revenue. Not to mention that other industrialized countries collect far higher percentages.

He's not a straight shooter. He's just another lying conservative that wants to balance the budget by cutting spending on people who earned it or need it, to protect tax cuts for billionaires, who are getting far more of the nation's income and wealth than anytime in modern history.

If he and other conservatives really cared about the budget, he'd be calling for a tax increase to get a compromise on taxes and spending. But he won't. Because like virtually all other conservatives, his number one priority is protecting tax cuts for the richest. Everything else is just a bull**** show.

    I want to know this.

If Trump wants to raise your taxes, do you then support Trump?

Why with the hundreds of taxes we all endure, do you want to pay the Feds more and more?

Last, do you deny that Obama collected record amounts of taxes in the various federal tax programs?

When Clinton collected the lower amount the budget got balanced. What is wrong with that?

When any billionaire is taxed or his taxes cut, it does not harm me in any way. Why do you act as if their incomes are a burden on you?

As one of our State of CA congressmen, Tom exposed the nonsense about education. He took on the big money running education and fought them. He wanted the money to go for the kids and teachers, not the bureaucracy.

I am stunned when reading Democrats froth at the mouth, and they glare at you and demand punishment for the rich. Why won't they simply try to get rich. It worked for Oprah Winfrey. She is no football player. It works for football players who play pro sports.

Seth, supposedly we little humans run the country. How izaat some ask? We vote. Yes, we vote but those in DC really vote. They have a lot more power voting than we have. The 535 in DC have votes that count. My vote for Trump did not count in CA. Here my vote was not for Hillary who won CA. My legislatures do not represent me. I sent them letters of protest only to be told that they know better. And I never have had any democrat agree with me on anything.

Conservative to me is a label with virtually no meaning since it has no clout.

I can tell you each thing I stand up for. I can enumerate my acceptance of the constitution. Democrats have a loathing of the constitution. Watch them fight the first two amendments all day long. I don't mean posters, I mean the congress.

If we could limit their spending, then I am okay with that. But we can chat and chat, never limit them. Who has been on the winning side of any petition to congress? I have posted since Clinton was president yet at no point has a poster admitted he managed to get a petition to congress accepted and cashed into law. Some are good congressmen. Many suck.

I'd support a fair plan that increases taxes.

Did you not just watch the video about the consequence of running up more and more debt? That's why.

Fed tax revenues were 17.6% of GDP last year. They were 19.7% in 2000. We are paying, overall and proportionally, about 10% less in fed taxes than we were in 2000.

Yes, in terms of proportion to the economy.

It's false. Clinton raised taxes and that's how we got to a surplus budget.

Did you not watch your own video? It hurts the country when we run up more debt to give tax cuts to billionaires.

Why do you want to run up more debt to make m/billionaires richer? Aren't the m/billionaires getting enough of the nation's income and wealth for you?

    Good for him.

You start a thread bitching about the debt, and now your defending tax cuts for billionaires.

Typical conservatives. You don't care about the debt. All you care about is the rich getting richer. Because, gosh, they've been suffering.

It depends on the wording of the amendment. I have not heard of Ryan fighting against this. But it must be created to match the constitution. When they passed it the last time, it was later overturned.

Well during war there is a War Tax allowed to fund it, for a two year period, so figure out how much a war costs and tax as needed.

I want to say it this way to make this point.

Say I am married to a woman and have kids at home. I must spend more than the rich neighbor next door since he has no expenses for a wife nor does he have kids. He is Mr. Republican.

I being Mr. Democrat decide that since I blew through my own money, why not put the hit on Mr. Republican who has millions of dollars and get him to pay my bills for me. Later after he helps me a few times, he sees where this is going. He can afford me, but has decided I am screwing him over.

This is Government 101. Democrats ensure super high spending and super high taxes by their demands to spend. Watch when they complain. They complain they want more spent. And if they spend that, they borrow from Mr. Republican and blow that as well. Do we buy alcohol for the drunk because he demands it? I see Democrats wanting more booze for them and asking me to fund it. Forget that nonsense.

Seth, no democrat wants to pay their share. The want you to pay their share. But you are right. If Democrats paid a fair share, we would not have debt.

When WW2 ended, my parents actually thought for America, wars had ended for good. Sadly Democrat Truman decided to invade South Korea to fight the North Koreans. Seems the North Koreans are still itching for battle and make threats.

Nice rant, but the facts don't support it.

The government is spending, proportionally, less than it did most years Reagan was in office. And the big spending drivers are the boomers' retiring and SS/Medicare, not your mooching neighbor or drunks.

How quickly you pounce trying to make it me against you as opposed to discussing the topic.

Are you pleased with the massive debt donated to us by Obama? Remove his debt and we get back to the much lower Bush debt. That would sure help a lot.

Somebody, maybe you, started in talking of the rich. I am dealing with this nations financial health and do not believe keeping spending at ultra high levels solves this.

I believe in showing the world we are going to pay debts. We borrow and borrow. This is the Democrat solution.

I don't care about the Rich at all. I don't need to care for them. They still make money. But that is not proper goverment principles.

It is as if you see a rich neighbor so you decide to live off the neighbor. You don't care what their situation is. They could go broke and you would have a laugh.

I am trying to show you the error of trying to live your life off the backs of the rich. They did nothing wrong. So why do you plan to punish them?

I haven't been pleased about the debt since Reagan ran it up and Bush squandered the surplus. Obama inherited a massive deficit with the GR and it fell by 2/3, and Republicans blocked his effort to raise tax revenues. So nice partisan but baseless blaming Obama for the GR.

That would help. Unfortunately, Bush left Obama with the worst recession in 80 years and a $1.2 trillion deficit.

Of course, if Bush hadn't squandered the Clinton surplus with tax cuts for the rich and unnecessary wars, we could have handled the GR caused deficits much better.

What is "high levels"? We are spending less than most years Reagan and Bush1 were in office, proportionally. Now I could agree with cutting spending, but the problem is we have interest on the debt and hordes of baby boomers who are retiring. You're going to cut their SS and Medicare benefits so you can protect your tax cuts for billionaires? Good luck.

Oh no. You don't get to blame that on Democrats. Republicans have run up deficits far more than Democrats.

I don't care about them either. They just need to pay more taxes.

It is if you see a poor neighbor so you decide to live off the neighbor. You don't care what their situation is. They could starve to death and you would have a laugh.

I can make up stupid **** as well as you.
