I was sitting on the fence, but your thoughtful and very substantial reply, is so very convincing, I'm sure convinced...

Here's the thing: Blacks have voted democrat for decades now. It's rare - and maybe even unheard of, I can't be bothered to look at the moment - for the GOP candidate to score 15% or more from the Black bloc. And now alluvasudden it jumps to 34%?

I asked this elsewhere - not that I expected an answer then, but still: a 26% jump in a bloc that heavily favors the Dem candidate? What's going on here? Okay, I get that the LW hates Trump, but if you've read Sun Tzu, then you know the adage about knowing your enemy. For the past few years the LW has gone completely off the rails; they don't WANT to know or understand Trump, they just want to defeat him - and in the meantime, throw insults and invectives like there's no tomorrow. But you'd think someone, anyone, would stop and ask why the sudden jump, because if the Dems want to defeat Trump in 2020, they need to understand where his support is coming from and WHY it's coming. If all the LW has is "Orange man bad pu$$y grabbing racist yadda yadda yadda" - then they don't really have any kind of credible argument to sway Trump supporters, nor do they have one for independents. I mean, I'm an independent and *I* can tell you where his support is coming from, but when I explain it to a hard-core Dem, it's like trying to explain math to a cat. They don't know and don't want to know. It even goes back to 2016 and I've said this repeatedly, whenever I asked a Hilla supporter why I should vote FOR her, all I ever got was "She haz vagina" and "She's not Trump" - in other words, no actual reason to vote FOR her, just reasons to vote AGAINST Trump. And with Trump, I could at least come up with reasons to vote FOR him, even if I didn't want to.

This is something the LW doesn't seem to want to understand: If you're gonna defeat Trump, you need to know real, actual reasons why people support him and not the reasons the LW THINKS why people support him. At this point the LW looks like it's gonna lose because it's already believing it's own press and thinks that calling it's opposition names - "deplorables" comes to mind - is gonna win the hearts and minds of others. It's not.

Every time I hear this, I keep thinking the LW is projecting their own feelings about their leaders onto Republicans because we have had a group of voters think of the president as a messiah - and it wasn't Trump, and they weren't Republicans.

I have Trump supporters in my family, and I can tell you that not a one of them think of him as some kind of really good guy. Even the most die-hard of them know he has faults, especially regarding his communication skills at the very least. But that's not the point. They like him because of where he stands on the issues, and his flaws, while substantial and acknowledged, are secondary to the fact that he stands for something that they agree with. Relegating their political beliefs to racism and idiocy absolutely fails to see what they believe. I mean, sure - it makes the LW sleep better at night demonizing people they disagree with politically, but as I said - in the end, it won't convince anyone to change their minds on Trump because that isn't an argument - all it is is emotion.

I see a lot of that too - but I also deal with a lot of teen-aged gang-bangers, so I may not have the complete picture here.

It very much depends on the level of competition in your industry/markets. In my markets, a number of large multinational corporations engaged in ruinous competition. I returned the favor. We survived, they didn't.

In other markets, usually mature industries sail the sea and things are far quieter.

    Oh really?
Trump is ‘the chosen one, sent by God to do great things,’ says president’s adviser
“God’s used imperfect people all through history,” Mr Perry told the broadcaster. “King David wasn’t perfect, Saul wasn’t perfect, Solomon wasn’t perfect.”

He revealed that he gave Mr Trump “a little one-pager on those Old Testament kings about a month ago”.

“I shared it with him and said, ‘Mr President, I know there are people that say you said you were the chosen one and I said, ‘You were,’” Mr Perry said.

“I said, ‘If you’re a believing Christian, you understand God’s plan for the people who rule and judge over us on this planet in our government.’”

I suggest you use less denial and more observance..

As a Southern Baptist Christian Conservative of White European heritage, Trump has indeed been chosen by God to save America. It's been his destiny. I feel so blessed,as all Americans should with him being such a Divine President.

Approval ratings don’t equate to votes though. Previous Republican Presidents have polled higher approval ratings yet similar actual votes. Liking a candidate isn’t enough, they need to like them better than any of the alternatives (and it’s not clear who the alternatives will be yet).

Also, if we’re using this poll to determine the 2020 result, why aren’t we writing Trump off based on the 46% overall approval rating?

Support for Trump and support for the GOP are very different things.

Gallup averages show Trump with a 10% approval rating among blacks in 2017, 11% in 2018 and 10% so far in 2019. In short, Trump's approval rating among blacks has essentially not changed over time, despite blacks presumably having had plenty of time to observe the economic gains that Trump touts as the reason why they should be moving into his camp.

The GOP IS Trump. He's chosen by God, after all. According to Trump, any Republicans who don't support him are "human scum".

Ya I just imagined from a few of your posts that you were a contractor with a crew.. I have a cousin in the same business, foundations, retaining/block walls, buildings well you know.. He just rides around in his truck with a big ass bull whip and makes sure all his people are getting the projects done.. In other words, his physical health has nothing to do with his business, supervision, bidding and clerical expertise is his end of it now.. ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

I for one have never been close enough to kiss his ass, so there is a discrepancy there! And if you have something tangible showing were other poster here on PF have kissed his ass then there are many discrepancies associated with that claim! I cant speak for all mind you, but I personally am a little insulted as I have NEVER kissed any mans ass and I had to shower with 35 gentleman 20 days a month ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

Rasmussen was closest to the 2016 results than any other polling company.

If true, Democrats are toast. The lowest black unemployment ever will do that.

That is higher than Obama's approval when he was re-elected.

The bible condemns homosexuality. The White House should always be free of it. He will not be the nominee. God will see to it.

I find it a little amusing that a lot of the people who will tout how wrong the polls seemed to get things in 2016 are now pointing to polls to tout how the President is locking up the 2020 election. The election is still a year away and the democratic electorate hasn't even chosen which candidate they want against the President. Considering how fickle we all know the U.S. electorate to be it's probably way to early to be putting much stock in polls when it comes to who is going to win the next election much less who is going to get the democratic nomination. As we've all seen, the only numbers that matter are the ones that we see on election days.
