The lockdowns have set off an appreciation for authoritarianism, mistaking it for safety. Remember how it was once about keeping the hospitals from becoming overwhelmed? No one talks about that anymore. Was it a real concern or a excuse to shut down that mom and pop store for good? Not only are governors toying with the idea of making masks mandatory, but what would keep them from making it a offense worthy of jail time, or massive fines? Colorado only tried this and failed, luckily.

At that point, what really would make us any different from Russia or China?

Actually in Arizona and Florida, there is once again talk of the possibility of overwhelmed hospitals in some areas.

And I'll ask you again, if this were an Ebola outbreak instead of Covid, would you be mad at the government
    for taking action?

We have had two pandemics in just the last ten years. At some point, it's going to be a far more deadly virus. Do you
think that the government and health services should be stripped of any power to slow infection rates?

The Miricle had already been called in. Oh schiest I meant tweeted in. Trump tweeted the Great CEO in the Comos to send down a miricle and make the CoronaVirus harmless to Trump Fans attending his rally. As soon as Trump fans put the Made In China MAGA hat on and they sign the Holy Hold Harmless agreement they will be shielded from any harm by that bad Chinese Virus. God loves fools and Drunks. So any fool who signs that Trump Hold Harmless will be protected. But God hates liars so be careful what you say at your rally if God is listening Mr. Orange.

WOW!! That is not what I expected you to say! It seems so much more obvious and significant that Trump is taking us into authoritarianism with his seizing of control of the Judiciary, the FBI, the State Department, and now his first major media take-over.

We are already there. We don't have an authoritarian governmental system but government is behaving in an authoritarian manner. They told millions of people to shut down their businesses. If that isn't authoritarian then nothing is. I have lost all hope. I never dreamed it come to this. Now I need to figure out how to adapt to a government that behaves in an authoritarian manner.

Except that he hasn't done any of those things. He did recommend the shutdown, something that I will never forgive. What can be more authoritarian than telling people to shut down their businesses? It is inexcusable.

Yeah, the Federal or State government has no duty to protect its citizenry. They have no role to play during an invasion of any kind of this country.

No. You’re not paranoid or hysterical or hyperbolic.

OF COURSE HE DID!! DON'T YOU READ ANY REAL NEWS? You must have a steady diet of Fox Fake News. Don't you know he has replace the non-partisan leadership of over 200 federal judges, the FBI, and the state department with his own hand-picked lackeys, and now has taken control of the VOA? You say he did none of those things? Really?

What degree of control does a President have over a wayward USSC justice? Zero. Nada. Zilch. As in, nope.

He filled vacancies, not fired judges. Federal judgeships are not revoked by whoever follows the one making the appointment. Obama had piled up a huge number of unfilled positions. Trump is allowed to fill them, and we do enjoy the thought of our next USC justice making Clarence Thomas look like some kind of Trotskyite. That demented hag Ginsburg ain't gonna last five more years.

Oh noes, the propaganda ain't theirs no more! Taking over VOA, Radio Liberty and other U.S. sponsored information sites is long overdue. As the Chief Executive he has the right to make these changes. The two top officials quit because they knew their time was neigh.

We are heading toward that but still have a ways to go. Currently it is contained within a few Democrat controlled states and cities. But it might continue to grow and there are undoubtedly a few Republican leaders who will abandon principle for the sweet taste (to them) of authoritarianism. And if the Democrats ever get national power it's Katy, bar the door.

Its hard for any group to become authoritarian when they don't control the Presidency, the Congress, and/or the military. Some people have to complain even when they are in charge.

It is part of his job to nominate judges. It doesn't mean he took over anything. Is there a president that doesn't use "hand picked lackeys." He can't hire someone without being accused of taking something over?. That has nothing to do with anything. VOA, America's government propaganda arm needed new management? I wouldn't know or care. I'm not a fan of government propaganda. How about a list of all the things his predecessors 'took over."

But apparently you think it is appropriate for government to force people to close their businesses. You're batting 0000. Maybe you should run for office so you can have some lackeys.

No, I am going for freedom from authoritarianism. But as a Marxist, you probably approve of authoritarianism since it is the only way to maintain a Marxist economy.

I'm not a Marxist so you've gone off on one ;) You can't, mind you, be for freedom and be a right winger. Authoritarianism is guaranteed.

Just based on scholarly research. You can be right wing and initially be naively freedom orientated. But you surely should be changed by the reality that right wing authoritarianism and bigotry go hand in hand.
