Admitted Hollywood great screenwriter and Novelist Larry McMurtry from Texas.He admits preferring to just bang away each day on his Hermes typewriter.Lucky for us.Also lucky for Hollywood greats such as Paul Newman.Whose finest movie was authored by McMurtry. A movie few americans have actually seen.Not so lucky for them. It has amazing dialogue.The stuff men are made of.Down to earth,simple, direct and a bit psychological.As in Man's favorite pastime.Making excuses and complaining. Hud Bannon could talk his way out of tying his shoes.Of course it helps to never wear shoes,instead Cowboy boots.Whereas His Old Man { Homer Bannon } didn't have time to dawdle.He was far too busy managing his Cattle Ranch. Of course to Hud's constant chagrin.Then again Hud was seldom embarrassed let alone familiar with words like " chagrin ".Hud dint have time.He had a degree in being a heel.Which he was a straight A student at.Self-taught,since back in that era { 50's early 60's } No college had such degrees,let alone course. Which is surprising since most of what one reads today is also plain-spoken, not what one coulda,woulda,shoulda,consider Abstract.More like downright Evil,passing itself off as everyday,commonplace ... You know like a Pandemic. I wonder how Hud would fare during this Pandemic.Not well.He wasn't one to follow rules,except of his own making.No way,no how would he be made to wear some mask.Or told where he can and can't go.So there is a good side to being a heel.Of the human persuation ... Who aren't raised and expected to heel like a trained doggie.Or are we ... Now. ? I must be missing something.Has Larry McMurtrey been disparaged.? What made a poster assume that.Unless a poster assumes - Hud - was about an honorable man.Hud Bannon was not honorable.But his Old man Homer Bannon was.Therefore Homer was at odds with Hud.Which makes for a dynamic.A polar opposite of 2 persons united by blood line. That happens often in Life.Father and son are near opposites. Homer Bannon - " You don't care about people Hud.You don't give a damn about 'em.Oh,you got all that charm goin' for ya. And it makes the youngsters want to be like ya.That's the shame of it because you don't value anything.You don't respect nothing. You keep no check on your appetites at all.You live just for yourself. And that makes you not fit to live with. "
