Idaho Lawmaker Suggests That Women Lie About Rape so They Can Get Abortions

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Republican Idaho lawmaker's suggestion on the Senate floor that a doctor should ask a woman who says she was raped if the pregnancy could have been "caused by normal relations in a marriage" brought a rebuke from another legislator who said it's insensitive and suggests women may lie to get an abortion.

Sen. Chuck Winder of Boise, the Senate assistant majority leader, was speaking during closing testimony on a bill to require a woman to get an ultrasound before an abortion, when he addressed foes of the legislation who said it provided no exemptions for medical emergencies — or in cases of rape or incest.

"Rape and incest was used as a reason to oppose this. I would hope that when a woman goes into a physician, with a rape issue, that that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage, or was it truly caused by a rape," Winder said during his testimony Monday, before the bill passed the Senate 23-12. "I assume that's part of the counseling that goes on."

 

The obvious next step for the Republicans is to set up "Judicial Abortion Boards" in every community, consisting of the elderly and powerful men of the community, to consider the woman's pleas for each request for abortion.

 

Wow...really. Just when you think that the republicans can't get any lower.

What next? If they "think" that a rape didn't occur the women are denied?

Seems like the republicans are sure asking for total and complete control of a woman's fertility.

 

Well, they will likely require her to report the rape to police. That would eliminate nearly all false rape claims. Not that I care if a woman gets an abortion, but the rape plan will not work.

You have to remember than McCorvey (Jane Roe of "Roe v. Wade") lied about being raped in order to obtain an abortion (which she didn't get).

 

they should not have to say they were raped to get an abortion, but if republicans are making that a requirement, then so be it

 

Of course they do and everyone knows it. Half cry rape to get an abortion and the other half are just prostitutes that didn't get paid.

Rape is by far the most falsely reported crime in america.

So let me get this straight.

Any attempt whatsoever to ensure that generally, sex has consequences, is a war on women?

Since when did consequence free sex become a human right?

 

Since men refuse to take more responsibility

How many different contraceptions are available for men

How many for women
