LOS ANGELES (AP) — The young wife of Mexico's most wanted drug lord has given birth to twin girls at a hospital in northern Los Angeles County, according to a newspaper report.

Emma Coronel, the 22-year-old wife of Joaquin Guzman, crossed the border in mid-July and delivered her daughters at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster on Aug. 15, the Los Angeles Times reported on its website Monday (http://lat.ms/nyfqmn).

Coronel, a former beauty queen who holds U.S. citizenship, returned to Mexico after they were born.

Birth certificates listed Coronel as the mother of the girls, but the spaces for the father's name are blank. U.S. law enforcement officials, who tracked her movements even before she traveled to Lancaster, told the Times that Coronel was not arrested because there are no charges against her.

Coronel is believed to be the third or fourth wife of Guzman, the 54-year-old multibillionaire head of Mexico's most powerful drug-trafficking gang, the Sinaloa cartel. The couple married the day she turned 18 at a lavish wedding in the highlands of central Mexico in 2007.

U.S. authorities have placed a $5-million bounty on Guzman head and allege that he and the Sinaloa cartel control the majority of cocaine and marijuana trafficking into the U.S. from Mexico and Colombia.

Guzman reached a new level of fame — or infamy — two years ago when he made Forbes magazine's list of the 67 "World's Most Powerful People." At No. 41, he was just below Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei while topping Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez — No. 67 — and France's Nicolas Sarkozy — No. 56.

Maybe we should let the rest of the worlds killers have kids in the US.

The US Constitution only grants citizenship to those born here if BOTH of their parents are US citizens already.

I read the article thinking that the drug lord was now granted US citizenship. And other than placing the bounty, how does this hinder him even a little?

If we stop having birthright citizenship for children born to American citizens, how will that work exactly?

    Certain.
The 14th Amendment has the stipulation that people must be subject to the jurisdiction of the US in order to be US citizens. The definition of this phrase has been bandied about for years. But, I believe the definition of the man who inserted the phrase into the 14th should always be the best one to use:

A person's citizenship at birth is defined by not only where they are born but who they are born to. If a person is born of even one foreign national then they inherit that parents citizenship. But, in doing so they are not under the complete jurisdiction of the US. Therefore, they are not born a US citizen.

This point is further enhanced by the main architect of the 14th Amendment, John Bingham. On April 25, 1872 during a debate regarding a certain Dr. Houard, who had been incarcerated in Spain, the issue was raised on the floor of the House of Representatives as to whether the man was a US citizen. Representative Bingham (of Ohio), stated on the floor:

(The term “to-day”, as used by Bingham, means “to date”. Obviously, the Constitution had not been amended on April 25, 1872.)

So, John Bingham, the father of the 14th Amendment, believed up to and beyond that point that all laws pertaining to citizenship in the US, including his 14th Amendment, defined citizenship as being born on US soil to two US citizen parents.

Hate to break it to you but even the parents were both non citizens and had a child here that makes the child a natural born citizen eligible for president. You lose again.

You know I hate when people dump on Germans for their past. We have plenty of people on this forum who judging by their reckless posts could quite easily blindly follow a racist demagogue.

As was I when you got all (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)y.

Are you going to tell us that the writers of the 14th Amendment are wrong about the Amendment that they wrote?

I'm afraid that you have lost. As I have posted, the 14th Amendment clearly requires that a person be born of two other US citizens to be born a US citizen.

But, I'm not posting my words. I'm posting the words of the 14th Amendment writers. So by saying that these words are wrong you are saying that those that wrote the Amendment are wrong about the Amendment they they themselves wrote.
Even you can see the stupidity in that.
