Then you also support a year long course in how to care for your body before receiving government provided heathcare? Maybe a year long course in how to excercise your right to freedom of expression? Or maybe we should expect the government to teach us all how to exercise all of the rights we are born with?

Seriously dude. I mean seriously. Do you know how dumb that is?

What I proposed seems like a perfectly reasonable idea to me. The other ideas you tried to put in my mouth... well, yes, those do sound pretty stupid.

To the person who sees government for exactly what it is, what you proposed sounds perfectly stupid.

Health care is indeed a civil/ human right as is housing, food and being treated with respect and dignity. If you don't believe that, try living on the street for a while. Health insurance can help to insure that a person has those things. People should have the right to chose there insurance but they also has the right to be free from being duped and defrauded by unscrupulous insurers who will cancel a policy when they get sick or find that the plan does not cover certain catastrophic illnesses. That is why Democrats favor regulations. So how the hell are they being hypocrites?

Being treated with respect is not a right. However. If you feel you are not being treated the way you should it is your right to leave. You are treated the way you allow yourself to be treated. Expecting government to regulate how you are treated because you don't have the backbone to say enough is a cop out and a failing on your part.

Your rights are provided by yourself. Want a house. Buy it. You can survive in the wild. Want respect? Earn it. You can survive without it. Want a prosperous life? Earn it. You can live without being prosperous.

    Your argument is invalid.

A free and appropriate education for children has been declared a right by SCOTUS. And it is a requirement of the state to provide it.

The SCOTUS has issued many rulings that one or the other party has had arguments against. It does not mean they have not been legislating from the bench.

The question that was not asked is what is an appropriate education. And for what. Appropriate for being a farmer or welder or babysitter?

You said: "Your rights are provided by yourself."

This is factually incorrect. A child has the right to a free and appropriate education. You have the right to emergency room care regardless of your ability to pay (they can send you a bill but you do not have to pay it). You have the right to a free attorney in some circumstances. Your theory is just wrong

This is where we disagree. You believe that everyone has a right to have an education provided to them. I believe you have a right to seek an education.

Your right to an attorney came about because defenders volunteered their time to advise low income individuals during questoning. It evolved into public defenders during questioning and trials based on an agreement between the state with the state paying. and the individual to have their schooling paid for by the state. And evolved. Back in the day they were not paid by the public or from the coffers.

I'll make this easy for you. Do you have the RIGHT to some free stuff from the government or not?

I think I've answered that in my posts in this thread and the other threads I've posted in.

Ok if you are afraid of a direct answer to a direct question that's ok. But remember that when you ask a question

Ok. Fair enough. No. I don't think that the government owes me anything. Nor do I believe I owe anything to anyone that I have not given my life to.

Well That is a direct answer. And a fair one. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. Currently our system of government does ensure that every American has the right to some free stuff. You are free to work to change that. Lets take it a step further. If you were wrongly convicted of murder would you accept a free attorney to defend you paid for by the government or would you consider that in violation of your ethics?

I wouldn't require a free government appointed attorney. And don't see how I could be placed in the position where I wouldn't be able to secure counsel.

You will have to show me how I could so I can answer honestly.

You are so wealthy that you can afford tens of thousands of dollars to defend yourself against a false accusation of murder? Do you think no one is EVER falsely accused of murder or that it couldn't happen to you?

I've planned and worked yes. Wealth? That depends on how you define it. Yes I have disposable income. And if it came down to my freedom and what I've earned what I have earned would go away.

Do I believe that no one has ever been falsely accused or falsely convicted? No. It happens probably more often than it should. But do I think that the government should provide it? Probably not. Or rather. I don't think it should fall on individuals to provide it for someone else.

Do you think a person having a heart attack should be turned away from the ER if they can not afford to pay?

They check to see if you can pay before they provide lifesaving care? Is the ER a drive through where you have to pay before you pick up your food?

If you had a heart attack and went to the ER. And paid a dollar a month would it not eventually be paid off?

You are being evasive. They send you a bill now for all the good it does. You have not thought out your position clearly. There are many examples I could use. Should fire departments be paid by each person DIRECTLY that owns a house. If they don't pay should the fire department come FOR FREE or should they let the house burn down with the little children in it screaming for their lives?

I could see an argument for having the FD paid through either a direct bill or through insurance.
