I have warned that Illinois is on the brink of bankruptcy. Now, Illinois Comptroller Leslie Geissler Munger says she will delay monthly paychecks for lawmakers and statewide officials since there isn’t enough money to pay the state’s bills and other services should come first. This is really interesting. What will happen next when the politicians cannot get paid?

Blue State through and through, Illinois is totally broke... Imagine that...liberals have financially destroyed the state government and pension system. I sense a massive tax increase coming. Somebody has to pay because the reason couldn't be the waste and fraud of the politicians!

At some point you have to say that it serves them right. You enlarge the govt at the expense of the rights of the people and at the expense of the economy, you get to this point eventually.

This is what happens when the most important meeting of the year is how much of a raise you are going to give yourself, then for the rest of the time you only look out for your own personal interests.

Doesn't that define all politicians and most govt workers?

Ask any govt employeee and they'll speak of waste but it's never their job that should be eliminated.

We've gotten a belly full from the "outsider" Ted Cruz who has been on the taxpayer payroll for 2 decades. He will do anything to improve his position within the govt. He is no better than Hillary, Bernie or Kasich who are all govt hacks

"Other services" ...what a joke....what it means is public sector UNION's get paid...at least for now...& that's a good thing for the most part. Pay the cops, the firefighters, etc. while the $$ holds out.
And you know, it will be interesting to see what will happen next when the politicians cannot get paid, but what would be really interesting is if the national media were asking that question and a few more about this situation. I mean, it's Obama's home State, isn't it?

And that's why you probably won't see much about this in the media. They'll want to provide more cover for Obama in his last year of office.

No they don't. The fact is that the average Democrat gets more assistance than the average Republican, and it ain't close.

Your "assistance" number is based on there being lots of federal employees, as in members of the military, located on bases, more of which are in the South, and such "red states", due to the fact that the US Government put them there after the Civil War to help insure the South never did rise again.

People on welfare, food stamps, etc., are overwhelmingly democrats.

Oh of course, what I described is everywhere. Politicians are only in this for their own personal benefit now and for who can make them the most money. But I'm glad to see them get a piece of what we have to go through daily.

Now watch as they work very hard to figure out what to cut to make sure they get their check in the mail.

It's funny that you write that. I'm a fairly highly skilled government drone. I work hard slicing and dicing performance management data, then testing it for reliability and validity. However, so much of that work could be replaced with better software and my feelings wouldn't be hurt if I did other things.

I know a government employee who had a great government job. He went to work in the middle of the night and worked until about 6AM. He had his own office where he worked on a computer shuffling paper work. When the internet became hot they connected him to the internet. Why I have no idea, but he spent some of his time on the internet until he discovered that he could find porn. After that he looked at porn for five hours and then did his work in three hours right before quitting time. A very good illustration that government employees are way over paid because we know that the government employees are the biggest users of the internet for non work related purposes.

San Antonio, Texas is pretty liberal too. I got a speeding ticket and the judge gave me the option of probation. It cost the same as the ticket but the city got all of the money and the ticket didn't go on my record. I went to the casher's window with the paperwork and the girl pointed around the corner. There I found a girl sitting in front of the window but she was eating some very greasy tamales so when I tried to give her the papers she held up her greasy fingers and called another girl over to take the papers. The second girl didn't stamp the papers, she didn't even look at the papers before she handed them to the cashier and pointed for me to go back around the corner to the cahiers window.

"Cannot pay their politicians?" This will likely cut their Total "compensation" by maybe a third.

The Dem answer is to raise the minimum wage to $15/hour. If only the minimum wage was $15, all our problems would be solved. So pay the politicians that. Problem solved.

    Damn! That was easy!

    This isn't the whole truth.

The State actually has a ton of money right now, but the Governor (republican newly elected) refuses to sign a budget into law as presented by the Speaker (Democrat) because it is not balanced.

Our government has basically been shut down for about a year. The State is still collecting tax revenues, but isn't paying vendors etc. They have a ton of money, but are fighting over the budget.

Speaker Madigan, a career political, needs to be ousted. The state elected Rauner, the new republican governor, to fix the budget issues, and that is what he is working on doing.

Counting welfare and other social programs, yes. Because they are the most poverty stricken. That doesn't really play into State politics and budgets though. Those are federal programs.

Of course you don't, because you are an ardent supporter of liberal policies that keep bankrupting Cities and States. Yes, it is absolutely the tax and spend mentality and priority to support public sector unions and their contracts that can't be sustained that are responsible.
