https://www.foxnews.com/politics/in...ny-ag-seizing-trumps-property-would-elect-him Our country is based on citizens having rights that the government cannot ignore. Love him or hate him,Trump's New York case is a bellwether case affecting every asset owner in America. The constitutional question is simple: "Can the government wall you off from appealing a judgement by forcing you to irretrievably sell assets to create the right of appeal?". So far they are trying just that. If they take over assets and do not preserve them and you win your appeal "you cannot be made whole again." Is the city going to run a private golf course responsibly and profitably, or just shut off the water and kill it, thus destroying the value of the defendants collateral? It gets worse: Suppose there are partners involved? What about their equity? The dumb ass DA has not thought this far ahead.* *and the people with brains didn't touch it and are laughing as she careens into the wall! As they say "Never throw a drowning man a rope."
This isn't the first time in history bonds have been used during appeals. And the only people who think that this affects "every asset owner in America" are those who can't conceive of owning assets without using them to commit fraud.
Also, I doubt this will help him. Sure, he's really, really good at selling his pathetic, fake victim narrative to the most gullible of his base, but nothing gets under his skin more than appearing to be less rich than he claims to be. He's sued people for saying that. It was the ONLY thing he said was off limits when he was a guest on SNL. If Trump's properties are seized, he will be 10 times more erratic than he already is . . . which is already at rabid-hippo-on-cocaine levels.
It is the first time (that I know of) that the courts overtly misrepresented the value of property in order to create a justification to confiscate it. That will worry all wealthy property holders in NY and maybe everywhere. And if I understand correctly, wealthy property holders have a lot of influence in NY.
The court did not overtly misrepresent anything. Trump did. That's why he's in trouble. You've been lied to.
He gets elected because a court case against him seems unfair to some? Damn no wonder doubts about democracy are increasing. It certainly can't thrive when half the electorate have been so thoroughly convinced of delusions.
