Is it me or are liberals now routinely anti Christian and anti Semitic?

"Midieval Hospitals were run by a community following a religious rule" Are you mad ?

Obviously there were hospitals - what city did not ... regardless of what rules the people were following.

Pure - unadulterated nonsense what on earth does this have to do with individual liberty .. you are blubbering incoherently. Name one totalitarian nation on the planet today that does not have hospitals ?

There are speeches by Roman Senators talking about the need to keep the poor fed. Almost every society recognized this as if you don't the people revolt ... be it a democracy, theocracy, or a totalitarian nightmare.

What on God's earth does this have to do with individual liberty as per the founders ?

You are completely desperate and grasping at straws.

Most hospitals, schools, orphanages, almhouses, and most charity after the fall of Rome was Christian. This is why Enlightment thinkers like Jefferson Adams Locke Adam Smith, Montesquieu, etc felt so indebted to Christianity for saving civilization as the decadent Roman Empire collapsed amidst invasions from from all sides by Germans Asians and Muslims.

The giftedone thought Rome was better??

    Roman Sexuality Accepted Pedophilia
A real man dominated in the bedroom as he did on the battlefield. He would have sex with his slaves whether they were male or female; he would visit prostitutes; he would have homosexual encounters even while married; he would engage in pederasty (see below); even rape was generally acceptable as long as he only raped people of a lower status. “He was strong, muscular, and hard in both body and spirit. Society looked down on him only when he appeared weak or soft.” So Romans did not think of people as being oriented toward homosexuality or heterosexuality. Rather, they understood that a respectable man would express his dominance by having sex—consensual or forced—with men, women, and even children.

    Christianity’s Condemnation
Christianity condemned the Roman system in its every part. According to the Roman ethic, a man displayed his masculinity in battlefield and bedroom dominance. In the Christian ethic, a man displayed his masculinity in chastity, in self-sacrifice, in deference to others, in joyfully refraining from all sexual activity except with his wife. The Roman understanding of virtue and love depended upon pederasty—the systematic rape of young boys. But the Christian sexual ethic limited intercourse to a married man and his wife. It protected children and gave them dignity. A Roman woman was accustomed to being treated as second-class human being but “in Christendom, a woman found a culture of genuine love that saw her as equally important as any man in the eyes of God. She was sexually equal with the man in the marriage union and had equal recourse under the law of God to demand marital fidelity.”

Do you see it? Christianity did not simply represent an alternate system of morality but one that condemned the existing system—the system that was foundational to Roman identity and stability. Christians were outsiders. Christians were traitors. Christians were dangerous. Their brand of morality threatened to destabilize all of society. No wonder, then, that they were scorned and even persecuted.

Founders were Enlightenment thinkers who loved and respected the individual as God did. 1+1=2

Notice how simple concepts confuse a liberal:
    1) The Papal inquisiton was not Christianity
    2) similarily, if a man commits a crime it does not mean humanity is criminal
    2) if a man speaks french it does not mean all men speak french

See why we say liberalism is based in pure ignorance?

Odd that the greatest Enlightment thinkers based everything, including the basic principles of America, on Christianity while the goofy giftedone takes the opposite POV.

I am not the one making goofy naked claims. Where is the support for this claim.

Standing on a street corner crying out "The moon is made of green cheese" does not make this claim true :)

"The Papal inquisition was not Christianity" ROFL

You are getting so desperate you are now claiming that the Pope is not Catholic.

Let me know when you get your head out of the sandbox of denial.

I did not say the Pope wasn't Catholic
I said the Pope was not Christianity

if one man is a sinner that does not mean he represents all men or that all men are sinners. A child could understand this, but not a liberal who was brainwashed by Marxists without his knowledge.

    Unbelievable ..

You (James M) are the one that held Martin Luther up as a pillar of individual liberty and love ... the guy that wrote "On the Jews and their Lies"
You (James M) has been the one apologizing for the Catholic Church's use of torture and for their persecution of the Jews over the 1000 years of horror.

and now you run around calling other posters "anti Semitic"

    Unbelievable

First you cherry pick my post and then add words to it that I did not say (a violation of Forum rules)

Then you try and change your claim from.
To - "the enlightenment thinkers were deeply Christian"

So what if they were deeply Christian ? Newton was Christian but he did not get his ideas about Gravity from the Bible. What Tom Foolery.

That is a nice quote from Adams - although it has zero to do with where he got his ideas.

Here is a quote that is at least related to the topic.

As I understand the Christian religion, it was, and is, a revelation. But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends, have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed?-- John Adams, letter to FA Van der Kamp, December 27, 1816

When philosophic reason is clear and certain by intuition or necessary induction, no subsequent revelation supported by prophecies or miracles can supersede it.-- John Adams, from Rufus K Noyes, Views of Religion, quoted from from James A Haught, ed, 2000 Years of Disbelief

    And from Jefferson

Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch toward uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one-half the world fools and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth.
-- Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, 1781-82

Of course you claimed the Pope was not Catholic by claiming the Pope was not Christian. Catholicism is a Christian Denomination.

Logic Lesson: If A = B and B=C then A=B. You are very much lacking in this skill but, no time like the present to learn 1+1 = 2 ;)

One man a sinner ? Most of the Church leadership were sinners of the highest order ... Christian doctrine came from these evil leaders and thus was "Christianity"

Your claim that the founders used this liberty hating Christianity to as the basis for their ideas on individual liberty is a big fat falsehood - of the highest order.

if you have evidence I will pay you $10,000. Bet? St Augustine, St Benedict and 1000's of others taught the !0 Commandments to billions thus creating Western morality. This outweighs Church corruption by 1000 times. Simple enough for you? A liberal wishes we had stuck with Roman Coliseum morality!! See why we say liberalism is based in pure ignorance?

You have seen 100 quotes from our Founders. Want to see 100 more? Time to admit you were abused by your Marxist handlers?

"Let divines and philosophers, statesmen and patriots, unite their endeavors to renovate the age by impressing the minds of men with the importance of educating their little boys and girls, inculcating in the minds of youth the fear and love of the Deity...and leading them in the study and practice of the exalted virtues of the Christian system."

Yes, after Jesus, he probably did more to spread Christianity than anyone. And this is not to mention that his revolution was about empowering the individual to have a individual relationship with God rather than a relationship with GOd through the corrupt Catholic church. Isn't learning fun?

The Pope is the figurehead of Christianity. All you are trying to do is weasel out of a lost position by claiming - all those "Christians" who did bad things - over 1000 years ... was not Christianity.

This is false because this is exactly what Christianity was during the 1000 years of Horror. Sure some Christians may have done some good things (another failed argument) but, this does not absolve the horrors committed by Christianity any more than Stalin doing some act of kindness or charity absolves the millions that he killed.

    Do you understand now ? 1+1 = 2

I have already given you the evidence .. you on the other hand have come up with a couple of Christians that did good things.

A few Christians doing good things does not absolve the 1000 years of horror and atrocity under Christianity.

The Pope that legalized torture - and all those who were torturing people - in Church basements because that is where many of the Torture Chambers were - taught the 10 commandments. What a joke of an argument.

Then you call me a liberal when you are the one that hates individual liberty .. as if name calling somehow lessens the fact that your arguments are nonsense.

Why are you calling me a Marxist when you are the one that hates individual liberty ? Quit transferring your sick preferences on to me.

It is not some secret that many of the founders were Christians ... so what - your quote has nothing to do with the principles on which the nation was founded.

    Another massive fail.

Yet another post full of mindless gibberish which has nothing to do with the topic. ... and Yes .. I wish you would learn to stay on point rather than rambling nonsense that has nothing to do with the subject being discussed.
