And you don't see a difference between a past president making money due to his past position and a current president making money while he is POTUS?

Seems to me that being the businessman that he is, having had so many irons in the fire going in, that he can't help either making or losing money. I doubt that he is making serious money or parlaying inside info to his monetary gain. And he has donated his entire Presidential salary to charities. Obama on the other hand, during and after his term, has cumulatively increased his worth forty times over. Are you saying that Trump is breaking the law?

Multiple bankruptcies and failed business ventures and the fact he is in deep hock to Deutsche Bank is an open secret

    Not to mention tax evasion

Did they play golf at a resort owned by them thereby forcing the security to have to spend tax payer dollars at that resort?

Is it ok for a president to profit off of his presidency?
Are you referring to the $millions Trump is losing while president, or the $tens to hundreds of millions that the Clintons and the Obamas made off their presidency?

We don't have the ability to accurately assess his net worth (which would likely be zero if not for his reliance of his father's fortune) because he refuses to release his tax returns.

You know full well what the question refers to. Why not answer it and not deflect?

Just showing the inane hypocrisy. Of course it is OK for someone to benefit or profit off his/her presidency. Why not? If Michelle and Barrack can get millions for writing books, why not. Or if Bill and Hillary can get $250,000 or so for a 30-minute speech, why not? If Hillary can get millions for writing a book while Bill is president, why not? Although some tit for tat while in office might indicate a problem. Bill Clinton getting $500,000 for a speech to Russians while Hillary was working to sell them our uranium smells a bit.

Of course the purpose of the thread is to make a mountain out of an ant hill in an attempt to try to show some wrong doing from people paying money to stay at the Trump hotel, implied worse because the Trump hotel does what every hotel does, and falsely assuming that any dollars paid to the hotel somehow gets to president Trump.

When you compare it with $40,000 Obama charged to have dinner with him.
    5. George Clooney’s Fundraising Dinner for Barack Obama
    How much: $40,000 per plate
Earnings: $6 million of the total $15 million proceeds

Obama used the White House to sell books that Bill Ayers wrote in his name and would still be on the shelf of book stores around the country collecting dust.

Trump, on the other hand, donates his Presidential salary to Federal Government departments every quarter and donates profits earned by his businesses on foreign guests annually. Last I looked at the staff list, his kids donate their time at the WH. He

Obama was tens of millions richer when he left than when he arrived. The Biden family used the VP position to stuff their pockets with billions by extortion in the case of Ukraine and by selling out the US to China. Pelosi used inside information she gained at the meeting on the economic lockdown to make a killing on Amazon stock. That pales in comparison to the killing she made several years ago when her husband was invited to participate in the VISA IPO so she would hold up swipe fee legislation to stuff her pockets at our expense.

My guess is that Trump will walk away from the WH poorer than when he arrived and, unlike his money grubbing predecessor, he won't give a cr*p.

    Absolutely, perfectly fine

Because the president, the venue, the security and some of those products and services are being paid by the taxpayer.
Which creates a major conflict of interest.

OK. Fair enough. I mentioned before that they could get around any rules by using the products and services of their family and friends.

How would we even begin to regulate something like this?

Most presidents in the past have tried to at least appear to avoid massive conflicts of interest because they respected the office. Those days may be over. The only thing we could do is mandate a blind trust while in office. Congress should have to do the same.

So, like most criminals/crooks, they get away with it. Whoever said "Crime doesn't pay" was a big, fat liar.

    Small crime doesn’t pay.
This type of crime pays handsomely
