Yes, FB is a device to surveil and collect data. I’ve had an account since 2008 but only posted about 10 times up to 2016. In ‘16 I went there to participate in the standing rock effort. It was an immediate joke. Apparently Native people believe FB is the only place on the web to protect vital elements. Of course they are addicted like 90% of the other activists that think it’s an okay place to conduct activism. It is not okay. The AI is a tool for treason and corporate profits, the domination of corporate tyranny. It knows who the covert agents are and helps them. A mobile device may be helpless against the manipulation of its operating system related to browser performance. It must have 20 different ways to censor that leave the user thinking there was a technical problem. For an example of how it stifles free speech, without even censoring, the people following your efforts can be reduced to near nothing and you are helpless to change it. I have 650 friends and 4 follows. How does this happen when my post are liked and loved constantly? The worst thing is that the churning of posts by the AI on the news feed looses all information eventually. There is basically no lasting, coherent record. I use another forum to archive important info. Here is one I’ve put together to document the different methods pf censorship. http://forums.delphiforums.com/fbaddictionend/messages/10/1
I haven't been visiting my Facebook page as often as I used to. Once or twice a week is enough; I used to visit it every day. The thing that turns me off now are all the posts concerning racial and political issues. I have already lost one friend due to a political disagreement on Facebook, in 2016. I don't want to lose more. So, I'd rather just limit my time there.
I deleted my account over ten years ago (on the heels of a very messy divorce) and don't regret it at all. The way I figure it is I would only be posting to people that I know, but who aren't an actual part of my life so why bother? Anybody that I have a real relationship with will know about my life from face-to-face interactions. I honestly don't understand why anybody over the age of 12 or so would think other people care about what they had for dinner. LOL
I quit in a similar situation. Have never considered going back even though the situation was resolved years ago.
Depending on the government, it is a good way for them to spy on their citizens. Totalitarian hellholes like Australia, Britain, China, and North Korea would most certainly abuse such services. Ultimately though, what they can learn or not is entirely up to how much you choose to share. I don't trust any social media, they can and will sell your data to the highest bidder, and that bidder will always be the entity that can point a gun at them and threaten them with jail if they don't comply...
I still have a FB account but only for distant family and friends. I hardly ever post any more. The more you feed it, the more they know. It's already bad enough with all the other entities gathering my personal data, but at least with Google it makes it far easier to switch phones and laptops because of the storage of my personal data. Eventually, when all this chaos settles down, we need to have our lawmakers start drafting legislation that protects our digital lives. Right now, we're still living in the Wild West on the Internet.
I have a FB account and I love it. I stay in touch with friends and family far away. I don't post much myself, but will comment on others. And the messenger feature is great. I use it for video chats. If you don't like it or don't trust it, don't use it. The same with so many other things. I am not fearful that my data is being used or my pictures either. I have no doubt that there is that going on, I just don't worry about it. So many other things in life about which to be concerned. At least, for me.
