The US keeps sailing guided missile frigates close to the Chinese coast, what is the overall objective? My guess is China has been so very successful commercially because they don't have to spend the huge amounts on 'defense' the US does, and threatening them will increase their military budget and slow their economy. But maybe my guess is wrong, maybe this time there is a legitimate reason. If so, what is it?
China's been building its military for years, as well as building outposts in the South China Sea on disputed territory.
It's to remind them that we are still hear and taking tawain or continuing to illegally expand will not go easy for them.

The one China policy was a mistake. We got nothing from it. It was foolish for us to pretend, as we once did, that the government of Taiwan was the only legitimate government of the mainland. Nevertheless, by every important criterion Taiwan is a better country than mainland China. It has a democratic government and a higher standard of living. It even has less economic inequality.
