I just learned that Phil Knight of Nike, along with his wife Penny, have pledged $500 million dollars to the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) to help find a cure for cancer. Knights $500 million dollar pledge is contingent on OHSU also raising a matching $500 million dollars over the next two years. USA Today reports that Dr. Brian Druker, the Director of the Knight Cancer Institute at OHSU, helped develop a drug that targets genetic defects in a particular cancer while leaving healthy cells unharmed. It remains unclear whether or not this promising drug contains any of the essential oil and cannabinoids from the flower buds of the female Cannabis Plant, commonly known as marijuana.
