We often say life is not fair. Nobody owes you anything. You get out of life what you put into it. I believe there is a lot of truth in all these sayings. However we have to consider the other side to all these things. Justice (fairness) matters and opportunity( a chance) is essential. You can't make something out of nothing. Skills, money, and information are needed to advance. None of this seems political or ideological but it is. Conservatives will decry social justice in theory and practice, yet they argue that income taxes and regulations are unjust. Meanwhile liberals will charge that discrimination and excessive income inequality are unjust.

Think about young people who went to college and got an education and now are unemployed. You could say life is hard and there are no guarantees. To say this requires us to deny what powerful people did to financial markets. Wall Street financiers ruined the economy by taking risks they could not afford and then got a bailed out; its not enough to say that's life. If these young people don't get good paying jobs they will not get the opportunities or rewards that come from hard work and skill. You cannot blame them for getting angry or supporting Occupy Wall Street.
