I think the real point is that you're not entitled to be free from criticism. You can express any ideas you want, even unpopular ones. But you cannot get butthurt when people criticize you.

 

If there is enough social pressure, people can get fired for expressing the wrong opinion.

I'm waiting for the day that the President can give a State of the Union address without mentioning the word "God". It won't be in my lifetime.

Discrimination is a necessary practice for humans to co-exist. Take away discrimination and we have "tolerance" which leads to violence. Why the great lead-up of violence in 2015 is nothing short of the "blowback" of tolerance. Why don't Liberals understand that you and I aren't the same, never will be the same and so to co-exist peacefully I'm not even going to remotely try to get you to see my viewpoint.

All it'd do is get us in a pissing match.

 

Social conservatives are getting their just deserts. You trampled all over states rights in 95 with DOMA and now you are (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing about a SCOTUS ruling supposedly doing the same thing you did earlier. Get over it you lost. No one except the people getting married themselves should have any say in defining marriage and yes I am including polygamy in that argument as well. Take the government out of marriage entirely. People can set up a contract detailing any property ownership issues if they want.

But as far the thread goes, Christianity is always "oppressed" just as long as it's not allowed to opress others.

The audacity of people! Oh how they mock us an our beliefs! We poor Christians mocked and pilloried for our beliefs!

I cannot believe it has come to the point that in the United States of America people will be forced, forced I tell you, to allow people to have different opinions other than ours. What government overreach is this that they would force us to accept other peoples belief systems as equal to our own. We so persecuted few believers. Oh how I long for the those golden days of yore when the government fully supported our belief system to the detriment of others. Now we must wallow in the persecution trough.

Why can't people just accept the Jesus and Bible adopt our one true belief system. It would solve a lot of problems.

What I find endlessly hilarious is that for some weird reason, straight Christians think that same sex marriage will affect them in any way, somehow.

 

It DOES effect them....they are frustrated daily and suffer from terrible temptation to pack fudge in dreams.

 

That is strange. I understand that they don't want the government condoning stuff they disapprove of - but they opened this can of worms by getting government involved in marriage in the first place. Either end that practice, or reform it to permit marriage for all.

Perhaps they have a point about the sanctity of marriage, that's beside the point - legal equality is required.

I support their right to discriminate in their private capacity, just as I support their right to proclaim their religion or ban guns in their private capacity. Operating a business? Fine - discriminate all you like. But the government is a different story - by the people, for the people - all of the people.
