It removed the context, obvious because of the reaction we can see.

I don't know the full context of his remarks, something I'd have to know before I could say. As someone who has run campaigns and been in the public eye myself, I don't think much of the kind of joke Biden was trying to pull off. Humor is okay, but it should be self-deprecating. Period.

I had two blood uncles--one was a USAAF/USAF Colonel who served in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam, the other a USA Major General who received the Distinguished Service Medal and worked for Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. My father-in-law was a USAAC/USAF Colonel and test pilot who flew 150+ aircraft and prototypes, including German and Japanese planes captured during WW2. Too many brass for you? My father was an enlisted Marine in WW2.

I have a bias against anyone who trashes the military.

That one has the part where he also calls the troops "dull and slow".

 

You're taking offense where none was intended or merited. You should have figured that much out from me telling you about all the military in my family.

If he did it humorously, he might be thinking he didn't really mean his quip to be taken literally. But if he said the words, he should accept ownership and explain. Better yet he should have used self-deprecating humor. Explanations seldom required.

Only the military could come up with FUBAR, SNAFU, etc. There's an incredible amount of humor associated with a deadly serious business. Maybe Joe could have searched his experiences with the military and told one of the stories he heard or was involved with, preferably one where the joke was on him. The best storyteller I know was an enlisted guy in the Canadian Air Force.

I didn't excuse Biden and said I want to see the context. What I can see in the short clip says taking the comment literally is a mistake.

Everyone who runs for President is taking their chances, so I have some admiration even for Presidents and candidates I don't like--Trump, Hillary the last time around. That said, if someone wants to impress me that they care about those serving, they will pay them more and make sure family members staying behind have they need to look after their families.

 

Biden was serious. It was personal to the troops who were there. They aren't public figures or politicians.

Trump was clearly making a personal jab at McCain who had stabbed him in the back, not POW's. I was clearly a joke.

It just goes to show your partisan bias and hypocrisy.

 

I see no evidence Biden wasn't kidding. Not even Hillary would go to a rally and insult her audience to their faces. Biden didn't survive four decades as a pol by being that dumb.

Biden calling them stupid bastards isn't funny on any level. It's not appropriate.

McCain gearing called out for being a loser is something I completely agree with, especially since he not only stabbed Trump in the back, he stabbed all Republicans and all those who voted for him in the back, myself included. Trump called McCain a hero, but the fact is he was a traitor to his country.

 

Not even Trump could be that disrespectful, but if he had said that on video, Chris Wallace would have played it over and over at the debate. There are really bad videos of Biden. Let's see the anti-Biden ads NOW.

There is no context in which calling ordinary airman stupid bastards is acceptable. None. I've given you plenty of room to explain a context and you can't do it.
