Jordon revived fewer votes than he did the first round.

"Jordan has officially lost a second vote in his bid for speaker.

The Ohio Republican received 199 votes."

Which is hilarious when you consider:

"House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries received 212 votes."
    https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/liv...dan-suffers-2nd-defeat-104082105?id=104039543

To borrow, and paraphrase, a line from Al Frankin: "I like Jim Jordan better than anybody, and I can't stand Jim Jordon."

You can't say the republican'ts in congress aren't fun to watch, who knew the Keystone Cops would make a come back.

Democrats can vote for Jordan, but they’re all in lockstep being the party of NO.

Why in hell would they vote for him....!?

One of the key players in the attempted overturning of the election, only a couple of heartbeats away from the presidency....?? Please say you were kidding....

Republicans can vote for Hakeem Jefferies. What's your point?

Jefferies got more votes than Jordan did, so why not vote for the person that is currently in 1st?

Yeah, it would have only taken 5 republicans to vote for Hakeem and ... PRESTO ... new speaker.

Jordan, BTW, needed 18 Democrats. Just say'n. :)

    Thanks Wolf!

    Some typical MAGA response. !!!

    https://news.yahoo.com/us-house-lawmaker-receives-death-234357213.html
U.S. Representative Mariannette Miller-Meeks has received "credible death threats," she said in a statement on Wednesday, after voting against Representative Jim Jordan for speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Exactly. Dems would have to give concession to 5 republicans. Jordan would have to give concessions to 18 republicans/democrats.

The democrat pathway is less messy IMO.

Republicans can't elect a Speaker of the House. Righties: It's the Dems' fault. Right wing media has trained you well.

Barry Goldwater called it almost 40 years ago...

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.”
    ― Barry Goldwater

This is what the GOP is currently dealing with, a small minority that won't even compromise with their own party, let alone anyone else.

Except the reason they are unwilling to compromise is not because of "God" but because of Donald Trump.

If the Democrats did that, they would get a huge public relations boost. They would be putting the good of the country ahead of petty politics. It would only take 25 or so of them from some safe seats. Sadly they can’t see thing that way.

The Republican holdouts are the real fools. They can’t think of the good of their country or even their own party. There’s good chance that some of them will loose their seats because of this. If I were in Matt Gates seat, and he were running against AOC, I’d vote for AOC just get him out of Congress. If his opponent were Omar or Tleab, I would abstain. I can’t vote for 100% evil.

Democrats can resurrect babies, solve world hunger and bring peace to ME, yet Republican will still blame Democrats.

We have seen that movie again and again. I have read many of your posts. You think trump is a piece of Sh%%% yet it’s your post here, when it comes to Trump vs Biden in 2024, you will vote for trump.

So , lets not pretend that Democrats can get any “public relationship boost” from Republican.

Goldwater is somewhat right , but not completely.

As a Christian myself, I have to say these “ evangelical Christian” on the right are anything but Christian.

You can read Bible cover to cover and no where you will find any justification to support an individual like Trump. These so called Christian even changed the basic principle of Christianity “asking God”s forgiveness” so they can accommodate Trump in their Christan cult.

Some Republicans are getting death threats from MAGAs for not voting for Jordan. You call them fools, then tell others they are not putting the interests of the nation first.

Jordan is probably qualified in the sense that he has the aptitude to fulfill the functions of the Speaker. However, he is too partisan and close to Trump which would harm the party in the long run. Putting Jordan in as speaker would upset a lot of centrists and would potentially harm the GOP in their fundraising efforts as well has elections. Democrats would use him as a political crutch for fundraising.

If Republicans were smart they'd pick someone less polarizing, but with a strong presence in investigating the Bidens and abuse of government power. And ideally, someone who will make good on giving a few days before voting on legislation and breaking up our budget into individual bills like McCarthy promised he would do.

So now that Republicans in Congress are getting death threats from the MAGA faithful, will these people be investigated and prosecuted ?
Or are death threats OK in MAGA land ?

Meanwhile it will only take about 17 or so Republicans to elect Jeffries. Should the Republicans do that for PR?

Shhh, don't say that. They NEVER see how silly their talking points would be, if the shoe was on the other foot. Why? My experience is that conservatives usually have a very hard time imagining themselves walking in someone else's shoes.

We can’t agree, so don’t even try. Jeffries is a far left disaster. I hated Nancy Pelosi as speaker. She is down right evil and totally hypocritical. She was guilty of insider trading and got very wealthy from that.

After getting a tiny majority, electing Jeffries would mark the end of a two party democracy. We would have one party in control forever. You think that’s great, but the level of corruption in Washington would unprecedented with one party rule.

The trouble with moderate Republicans is that they are like the Bush family. They stand for nothing and don’t have the courage, or perhaps, the political conviction, to change their ways. I wish we could find another Ronald Reagan.
