Really good movie. If you like to watch Tom Cruise die, sometimes in hilarious ways, this is the movie for you.

One of the good things is that the trailers didn't give away too much of the plot unlike what so many nowadays actually do.

Very true- that is also the reason I don't read more than the first paragraph of any movie review of any movie I am planning on seeing- dammit I want to be surprised!

Tom Cruise is one of the few actors who rarely ends up in an actually bad movie. Obviously I like some more than others based on subject matter but even the ones like Days of Thunder which is about NASCAR (which is about as interesting as watching paint dry) was still technically a good movie.

Sadly, many people are complaining that the trailers don't give away enough and so they won't see it. It's a sad fact that most movie goers today want the trailer to give away the entire movie.

That's true. I'm in no way a Tom Cruise fan, but he must have great people working for him who know when a movie's good or not. He has a great record of being in some really good movies.

I think you're confusing his real life with his acting abilities.

Did you read the manga that the movie was based on?

Not really. The War of the Worlds was godawful. Everyone but me seemed to like MI but I hated all but the last one.

Knight and Day was really, really fun though.

Just saw Godzilla- and it was awful.

Not really a Tom Cruise fan but I've actually been curious about this movie. The only things that he's done that I've enjoyed is The Last Samurai and Knight and Day. Everything else that he's done just doesn't appeal to me but this one actually caught my eye for some reason. Thanks for the quick review and thanks for the non spoilers. I'll definitely have to check this one out when I can.

I didn't realize their was a manga that this based off of. The previews actually made me think Assassins Creed and the animus for some reason.

He's in Godzilla? I didn't realize that. I was kind of iffy about watching it before but now even more so.

I forgot about Mission Impossible. I hated the first on when I was younger but grew to appreciate it as I got older. For the most part though the series are more meh then anything.

I do hate Tom Cruise but I am waiting to finish the manga (well, Japanese sci-fi novel) that it's based on before I watch the movie.

No- sorry if I confused- Tom Cruise is not in Godzilla- the movie is just really bad.

Tom Cruise is very good in Edge of Tomorrow and the movie is excellent.

What's with the haters? I have seen the majority of Tom Cruise films since Taps, and he's evolved into a solid actor. The only real stinker I can recall was Far and Away where he played an Irish immigrant along with Nicole Kidman. Having relatives who were genuine Irish immigrants, his accent was atrocious and was more akin to the Lucky Charms leprechaun.

Have not seen Edge of Tomorrow, but as I understand it he's stuck in a quantum time loop of some sort. I'll have to disagree sith SFJEFF, regarding The War of the Worlds, I thought he did a good job in dealing with a script full of plot holes.

I think Cruise is a fine actor with the right material- I thought his acting in the MI movies was wooden and uninspired- until the last one- which leads me to think that some of it is direction. When given an opportunity to show his ability for humor he really shines- see Knight and Day- an underappreciated film that is just a fun ride.

Saw it yesterday. Best sci-fi film I've seen in a long time. Way better than last years "Oblivion", which also starred Cruise. Movie was a lot funnier than I thought it would be also.

I think I would be hard pressed to find another star as long lasting as Cruise with as good a record of good movies. I agree that War of the Worlds was a stinker, but that is by far the exception to the rule.

I remember Angry Joe saying something similar in his review, stating that people who hate Cruise will like it for that reason, and people who like Cruise will like it too.

He also compared it to Groundhog Day, seeing as how it borrows the same concept of repeating a certain day many, many times over. I'm fond of Groundhog Day, so I suppose that's encouraging as well.

But... is this thing worth paying to see? So much of what Hollywood churns out isn't, at least for me.

Definitely worth seeing, especially since you said you liked Groundhog Day. There's a big influence here, especially with the scenes that repeat rapidly where he makes small changes to get the outcome he likes. It's also funny for many of the same reasons that Groundhog Day was funny. Add to this though an actual reason for why the day is looping over and over (Groundhog Day never even attempted to offer up an explanation), as well as a lot of great action scenes, and it's about as good as a modern sci-fi movie can get.
