Why are you so upset over it not being a holiday? Seems odd

The magic fairy court would be facts, such as the definition of what a holiday is in the dictionary, and Kwanza not meeting the definition thereof.

Please don't project your feeling onto me.

I am not upset. I am just passionate that facts win out over your feelings that Kwanza is a holiday.

    I'm having fun over here.

So before the invention of the dictionary, according to you, there were no holidays. Weird. Also, can you point me to THE dictionary? Not A dictionary. You seem to believe there is one definitive one. Where? I have a dictionary right here that says Kwanzaa is a holiday, so how do you explain that?

Hint: there is no objective measure for what days are special and which ones aren't. Throwing a hissy fit because someone else considers a day special and you don't is just ridiculous.

I really hate those threads where I have to teach people how dictionaries actually work.

Where did I say Kwanzaa is a holiday? You’re so emotional over this that you’re making claims about something I never said. Tsk, tsk...

I'm not enforcing any religious diktat for celebrating Kwanzaa ( or any other kind of diktat). But Kwanzaa isn't a religious holiday, and it's not really an ethnic holiday. It's a made up creation (I'm older than Kwanzaa) to make a political point. It was intended to be a fake holiday for African Americans, so it's relevance to people who are not African Americans, like Jamaicans or Indians, is nil. So what does Kwanzaa have to do with an Indian-Jamaican girl growing up in Canada? I'd say nothing. If she posted about growing up celebrating Divali that would at least make sense.

I'm not telling her she can't celebrate Kwanzaa. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that she celebrated it this year. All I'm saying that she is lying about celebrating it as a child.

Again, this is projection: you are throwing a hissy fit when confronted with the reality that Kwanza is a fake holiday.

My post was simply throwing up my hands at trying to find meaning in your post.

We've already covered St. Patrick's Day in this thread.

Go back, and read my response to that, and if you have a question about my response, then ask me.

Oh, on the contrary, I find it quite amusing, just as I find it amusing to point out that your argument is completely nonsensical.

Still trying to find "THE" dictionary and figure out how the English language could have possibly existed before it, I see.

So I make a claim about Kwanza not being a holiday, and you inject yourself in the argument, and now you're saying that you were never counterarguing; you were just arguing about something else?

I'm guessing for the next four years of the Harris-and-also-Biden administration that's what we're going to hear, "but what about Trump..."

Nah, I don't care that much.

It just seems churlish to complain about Black People's Holidays. It is harmless and makes people happy (except for you).

    Ugh.

    The dictionary would be Merriam-Webster.

    n. holiday
    : HOLY DAY
    (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/holiday)

    n. holy day
: a day set aside for special religious observance
    (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/holy day)

There are other senses of "holiday," no doubt, but none of them applies to Kwanza. If you can make an argument that anyone of them do, fine; let's hear it.

Sigh...I never claimed Kwanzaa was a holiday. If you are unable to understand what I posted then I don’t know what to tell you. I assumed you had been able to follow along all this time but apparently I have given you too much credit. My bad.

If you don't care that much, perhaps don't interject yourself in the conversation.

No doubt there will be plenty of people who do that. Just as there were plenty who stated...”but what about Obama” during Trumps admin. Both sides pull this crap.

    Awesome.

So I'll be sure to note in the future that when you are replying to someone making an argument, you are not necessarily replying with anything relevant to their main claim.

    Got it.

By plenty of people, you are including yourself I hope since you were the latest to try to bring Trump in this topic?

    How churlish!

Additionally, how vacuous! You ask me a dumb question that was already answered, and then you claim that you "don't care so much" what I think. That's kind of a dumb move to ask a person a question when you don't care what they think, eh?

Kind of wasting your time and theirs, no?

You really haven’t been able to understand my past posts? Wow...how sad for you. I’ll try to help you out...I have simply been arguing that it doesn’t have to be a holiday for someone to wish a happy Kwanzaa. Why does it bother you so much?

Oh right, because I brought Trump up in a snarky way that must mean I will always bring him up. My lord. No, I don’t play that what about so and so game like others do.
