She was a true original. An original type Beatnik chick turned Hippie chick.came up with those other beat actors like Jack Nicholson, Sally Kellerman, and Bruce Dern. They were beat way before Dennis Hopper. Or even Harry Dean Stanton { still standing and gave a sort-of eulogy for Hunter Thompson}.I just watched an early Stanton,Alfred Hitchcock Presents. He played the Kool jazz kat. That was Ms.Black as well.Always kool and Kitty cat tough.Always femine yet with a way about her.I had a sort of crush on her as a kid. That sexy face with full pouty lips and nice figure. She had a way about her.Like she knew how to handle the stronger sex.Her mix of being warm and cuddly yet also wise and prudent in a stern sort of agreeable way defined her role as a quality and likeable actress. She was in a movie seldom seen - Addict - {1971} also titled - Born to Win -. It starred both Robert DeNiro and George Segal. I have a copy. Her best movie is probably - Five Easy Pieces - {1970} in which she got an Academy Award nomination.I didn't like her character at all.But that was ultimately the point. In that she excelled.
Seriously??? Dam. That's a shame. She was unique. God bless you Karen, and condolences to her family.
