The King is being treated for cancer, the sovereign’s ill health has raised questions about whether there could be the need for a regency in the future.

If Charles was incapacitated, the Prince of Wales could be appointed Prince Regent through the Regency Act 1937, taking over the King’s duties.

This has come as a surprise to me. I hope he can survive this.

....they're being pretty tight lipped about what it is and he's being treated as an out-patient so hopefully a reasonably goodish sigh??? Dunno...
...but yeah....he's a good lad so hope he's okay

If the cancer is caught early....then a good prognosis can be made.

Early detection is key....for prostate and colon cancers especially.

Not all cancers can be a death sentance. In some cases it can come back but I don't think it will be a prostate and I think it was detected early so the King will survive.

Hard to tell without knowing the type and extent of the cancer. I've survived two cancers - a sarcoma and a carcinoma. Since I was diagnosed early I was cured of both with surgery and chemotherapy. Like me, the king has top notch medical care and will likely share my results. What he faces isn't fun but not necessarily disabling.

You're lucky. You made it. There are some that aren't that lucky. I had a brother that wasn't.

It has to be diagnosed prior to metastasis to be cured at a high rate. After that survival is a genuine struggle. My carcinoma was stage 3. It had spread to a couple of lymph nodes that came out with the surgery and didn't go any further. I went through Chemotherapy to nail down the cure. I was cancer free after the surgery as it turned out. The surgeon did a bang up job. Sorry about your brother.

Wishing Charles a successful treatment program.
This has only added to the pressure Prince William is dealing with, Wife had major surgery , removing her from duties, Charles had the treatment for enlarged prostate only to find out later he has cancer.
The Duchess of York has skin cancer .....after being treated for breast cancer.

It never rains..it pours. Even for the royals.

It seems only fair to respect their privacy and choice to keep details to themselves. Cance can challenge the dignity of a person without even trying.

Retaining some semblance of dignify during a very undignified process is paramount. He has the incredible support from a loving wife , son, and daughter in law ( William and Catherin )
Plus sister Anne, Bother Edward and his lovely wife. In times like this, THAT is what matters the most. The job itself can wait or be handled by others temporarily. It is NB to note that he has had a year of MAJOR change. Losing his mother, gaining the resposnsiblility of King, difficulties with Harry and M. and just adapting to his new role.

If and When WIlliam is made King, It should have been known that Charles III would not last as long as his mother Queen Elizabeth II

Since that would require Charles to live to be like 150, I don't think it is a big secret.

There will be others. They are nothing if not breeders when they are in direct line to the throne.

Not sure Canadians have a say in such matters.
