It turns out that databases can be misused. What about the other data the government is collecting? Buying ammo puts you in a database here in CA!

We're all in databases. Midway, Academy Sports, Amazon, Google, IRS, FBI, NSA, Blue Cross etc...

Personal information is the new currency.

True. While known gang members should be watched, the focus always seems to be on law abiding citizens.

BRILLIANT! Because now police will have revert to just making assumptions about people. Technology was giving them an edge, allowing the use evidence based discovery to construct database and models to aid in precision police work. Now officers will return to the days of "that boy don't look like he belongs here". Brilliant regressive step, just brilliant.

Because it's way to hard to add a comment in the database that says "Family member: no connection to local gang"

You bring up a good point, while innocent people shouldn't be caught up due to association these technologies have helped us catch suspects and criminals and what otherwise would have been cold cases. If anything, we need to be more precise not turn back the clock as you perfectly stated.

What a shame, now you can no longer check out a gang members associates to see where he might be hiding or who might be stashing his guns and drugs etc.
