    Good question.....

I taught English in Quito, Ecuador from January of 2001 to 2002..... my wife is from there.

May I repeat here what I have just written else-where:

    -------------------

I was born to a German mother in 1946.
I went to the Catholic Mass every Sunday.
Partly because it was the custom of our village, partly because I really enjoyed it as a change from the daily work in the farm fields.
Those Masses had some parts in Latin, but I did not mind.
On the contrary, I found that Latin sounded beautiful and mysterious.
Even as a child I liked languagues and beauty and mistery.
The greater part of the "Latin Mass" was in German.
The sermons were in German, of course.
And I found those sermons so terribly terribly boring that I would have preferred them to be sung in beautiful Latin in the way of the Gregorian chants.
