Hahaha, that's a mean question. I don't actually speak German.

I do believe that there isn't just one German term for it, there are multiple.

I'll ask another question since no one answered the other one.

What was the most destructive, in people killed, bombing raid?

Well, it was the bombing of Tokyo but I believe it was probably WP that was used.

Oi! Them's not the rules of the game - and anyway I did answer your last question. "The Panzerjäger Tiger Ausf. B Sd. Kfz. commonly known as the Jagdtiger." :-D

Also, I do have a life, and I have to sleep. :)

BTW, the answer to the FLAK question is Fliegerabwehrkanone.

Das war die Fleissiges Lieschen (Busy Lizzy).

It was officially the Vergeltungswaffen 3 (retaliatory weapon 3) or V3, and consisted of an enormous cannon intended to bombard England (it was never used).

I meant no one answered the flak question.

However, flak is also said to stand for Flugzeugabwehrkanone or Flugabwehrkanone as well. Looked that up. Knew that it was argued that it meant more than 1 thing.

How many American aircrew officially took part in the Battle of Britain, in what way did they deceive the RAF authorities about their origins, and why?

Hi Jason, it's nice to see someone else joining in (it's been a three way exercise thus far). You can take my next turn if you like. :)

None officially took part like in the movie Pearl Harbor. They told the Brits that they were Canadian because the Brits weren't accepting Americans and any Americans that served and it was discovered by the US government that they served could lose their US citizenship.

Very good - 66% thus far - but I cannot give it to you until you answer the third (and possibly most significant) question.

Actually seven did officially serve, and are recognised as such on the Battle of Britain memorial. The RAF had no problem accepting Americans, but it was the US who forbade its citizens, under pain of losing their citizenship, from taking part. Those who did take part, and at least one lost his life, should be doubly commended for their courage in the face of such opposition. I, for one, honour them greatly.

Thank you Leo. Always the gentleman and a true measure of civility.

Ok lads, what did Roughwear make for the USAAF? Hint: Steve McQueen had one in the film "The Great Escape."

I have one in my collection.
