Is it legal to fire workers because they’re LGBTQ? The Supreme Court takes it up. So do we.

    https://www.wbur.org/onpoint/2019/10/09/lgbtq-workplace-discrimination-supreme-court

What will be the outcome of this since kavanaugh is now a justice? Simple answer and I'm appalled this is even still a question.

"'It’s sexual orientation — it’s not sex,' Justice Alito said at another point during the arguments, underscoring that Congress and the American public have long understood these forms of discrimination to be distinct. Discriminating against someone because they are a man or a woman, he said, is not the same as discriminating against someone for being gay or lesbian.

"The cases before the justices on Tuesday are expected to provide the first indication of how the court will approach gay rights since two appointees of President Trump, Justices Neil M. Gorsuch and Brett M. Kavanaugh, joined the bench. Many expect the court to take a less expansive view since the retirement last year of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, its swing justice and the author of all four of the major decisions protecting gay men and lesbians, including the 2015 ruling that established a constitutional right to same-sex marriage."

The only subgroup of the lgbtq that may cause problem in the workplace are the trans.
Not the transwoman or transman, but those identifying as a firetruck or an attack helicopter... Accomoding them may be too costly for mom&pop shops.

Why should it matter what you identify as if it has nothing to do with your competence at the job, regardless how much you try to pidgeonhole the matter to fit the agenda? This is about sexual orientation. Somebody was allegedly fired for being gay.

I'll play devil's advocate and tell you what the problem is, it's being uncomfortable and needing to measure every word and action when being around them or face claims of harassment and lawsuits.

I have a gay sister, two gay cousins and I've known a woman all my life who is a gay feminist activist, and I'm here to tell you, when they get in their moods just about anything I say can be taken as an insult by them. I would not want to work around them and I don't know how other people do. If I were in the market to hire someone I would not be looking for people who will look for reasons to be offended and sue me. Is that discriminatory? Probably. Is it good business sense? Absolutely.

Here's a novel idea, be respectful to your family and friends and quit telling homosexuals that you don't want them to have the same liberties and rights as you have in front of them. Perhaps you would have a better relationship with them.

    Just sayin.

What rights did I say they shouldn’t have? A good business move is to hire people who won’t sue you because they have a crutch to fall on when they are literally treated like everyone else.

Have you ever in your life, just once, maybe by accident told a harmless blonde joke? Well, today that will get you a lawsuit even if you have blonde hair yourself.

And the first people to accuse cons of having no sense of humor will be the left.

Lemme help you here, when you tell people that you want to restrict their rights and not have what you have simply because they are sexually attracted to someone that is the same sex, they tend to get upset at you. Savvy?

And when did I say that? Business acumen dictates not hiring people who will sue you because they’re maaahvolous.

Hey, have you seen the stories about Trump supporters being fired? Probably not.

Steve, everyone has a so called "crotch to fall on". It just depends on the day. That's called life. Hire people based on job competency full stop. If they are not doing their job that's the only reason to fire someone. If they are annoying you, sorry but not good enough. But if a gay person doesn't mention it ever, then gets fired for it that is a giant red flag for civil rights.

Interesting. Should our immigration policy be based on the same job competency you speak of?

Let’s get real, defensive hiring is a reality thanks to the people who will use their status as a crutch for a lawsuit. If you don’t hire a blonde, then you can’t be sued for making blonde jokes.

Of course immigration policy should be based on competency. I'm not a moron.

Here's the crux of the matter. Everyone knows that when AA laws were made sex meant male or female. That is the context that is being spoken about in those laws. It does not address sexual orientation. Full stop. Anyone that says that it does, or should, are just wanting to manipulate the words and take them out of context. They do this because they know that it will be easier than trying to get congress to do anything. It is an attempt at manipulation of the courts and laws. And that should not be allowed to happen. Period. If you want sexual orientation to be covered by AA laws then get congress to add it to them. That is the proper and right way to go about doing this.

And no, I'm not saying this because I'm anti-lgbtq. Because I'm not. I don't care what others call themselves so long as they don't push and force it on others. I would even vote for adding it to AA laws if I could. And I'm against AA laws as people have a Right to Association. But if we're going to have them then I do believe sexual orientation should be a part of them. Just do it the right way is all that I ask....and yes....demand. The courts are supposed to be there to uphold laws that are Constitutional and not be a way to manipulate law. That is wrong and an abuse of the system, especially when there are activist judges. Those should be disbarred period.

Probably about the time that lefties became snowflakes and started suing over every little thing, hollering, creating a cancel culture, and needing safe spaces (IE: segregated areas).

Couldn't agree with you more here. The identity politics/cancel culture is definitely a problem and there is/has been a major backlash.

Ironic considering you started out with the ad homs. And don't pretend that you weren't trying to be offensive with the bolded.

You're the one that hijacked your own thread by saying this: "Uncomfortable?? LOL...who would have thought righties are so....."sensitive." What a hoot."

Do unto others as you would have done unto yourself.
