Conservatives, by dismantling any social safety net, would send us back to an age of peonage so that we would have to work for whatever the capitalists decided they want to pay us, which would likely be less than a living wage as we would now define it.

They also go into an irrational hissy fit when somebody dares to suggest that other religions than their should be tolerated.

The greatest threat to America right now is the fusion of far right Religion, nationalism, and corpratism that has been pushed to the fore front of the GOP party.

 

Where have you been these last 4 1/2 years? Under Obama our nation has slid into economic oblivion, we are weakened both domestically and on the world stage, we can't keep track of his many scandals, our natural resources are being stripped and regulated into obscurity, our classes are being pitted against one another, our students are being dumbed down in a failed government run school system, our government is getting un constitutional powers--stripping us of our freedoms, our businesses are at a standstill thanks to taxes and regulations, he's introduced wealth redistribution to keep the useless, the homeless, and the un productive populace living on the dole for life.....and you think its the Conservatives who have been a threat to our nation? Wow, you need a serious wake up call in the form of a total Republican sweep of our congress come Nov of 2014. So many people are brain dead at this time that can't seem to see the rotting fruit on the tree in front of them.

Other. Leaning too hard to the left or the right is the biggest threat.

 

Americans themselves.

 

Our political system.
The continual campaigning.
Our momentary policy.
The control corporations and banks have on our government.
All you people who think the problem is the liberals or the conservatives.

 

Our trade deficit.

 

It has been this way, successfully so, off and on for decades now.

It isn't suddenly a greater issue now than it was in the 1980's, for example.

 

If you are headed into an iceberg, steering hard right or left is the only way to avoid catastrophe.

The time to steer a steady middle path won't come again until a true Conservative POTUS rights this ship of state.

...but I don;t believe there is a valid threat to America at the moment.

 

The only ones I'm worried about are the police. They're a heavily armed, highly organised bunch of trigger happy thugs..

 

What some folks do is to look at this as they would a video game where nothing counts but the final score or in this case, the final outcome.

I think a good many folks who feel as you do will change their tune once they figure out the carnage and chaos (that would be unavoidable even if the current threats remain UN-viable) that could spawn from our recognized threats will make THEIR lives a real hassle on a day to day basis. And actually be hazardous to many.

And despite the billions of dollars in damages and thousands of lives lost and four score more injured or infected and our entire society disrupted you might still be able to claim your Pyrrhic victory.

We'd still have a country remaining.

Well, I want to prevent that crap too! Not just the final collapse.
