European israelites or european hebrews would be a better term than 'european jews' because of all of the confusion and ignorance around the word 'jew'. Most people think it only refers to those who practice a religion called judaism. Its not just an idea, its a reality, and has been for quite some time. Case in point, the Alliance Israelite Universelle. Even popular food items like "Hebrew National". It is true there are many races that convert to judaism and are 'jewish' in only the religious sense, but there are also diaspora communities that descend from famous rabbinical dynasties that trace their lines back to king david and other hebrew figures from ancient israel, babylon, and persia, the most famous being those of Sefarad, Ashkenaz which are hebraic terms referring to the regions of europe, specifically spain/portugual and germany/france. There are also Roman Jews or italqim who have their own traditions and have lived in europe (italy) for thousands of years as well as Romaniotes, hebrews who settled in ancient greece. All of these communities descend from the hebrews of ancient israel and judea. The very word jew refers to those of judean origin. But most think or choose to believe that it refers only to judaism, the religion. This is done mainly for political reasons in an attempt to sever the racial ties that most israeli jews have to the middle east. Others do it out of ignorance, sometimes willful. The other term that has been pushed, only in recent years, is 'arab jew', which is not only offensive, but highly inaccurate. My dad is Israeli. His ancestors were hebrews (jews) in Iraq (baghdad and kurdistan) and some jerusalemite. My ancestors lived in these areas centuries prior to the arab conquests and unlike other mesopotamian and levantine populations, they remained genetically intact because of the religion of judaism, historical circumstance, including persecutions. We are no different than the assyrians of Iraq or the Kurds of Iraq. The term 'assyrian-arab' would make no sense, and neither does 'arab jew', it would be like saying 'arab israelite' or ' arab hebrew'. It cheapens our ethnicity into just a religion. The only true 'arab jews' are arabs that converted to judaism, and perhaps a percentage of the yemenite jewish community who have some significant arab admixture depending on their family history. Bavlim or 'babylonian jews' as we are called are descended directly from rabbinical dynasties and only married other jews, we are descended from the hebrews. Some of us spoke judeo-arabic, some spoke neo-aramaic, most of our ancestors always spoke hebrew, even if we didn't though, it wouldn't negate our hebrew ancestry and replace it with a false 'arab' one. African americans don't become anglo by ancestry or 'white' just because they lived among whites and spoke english for centuries. We also cluster with moroccan jews, does that make us berber? Of course not, the reason we cluster is because moroccan jews are hebrews just like us.
ipersonally and many others dont adhere to these western traditions that german/spanish jewish ppl are descended from the biblical Israelites. you allude to this 'duality' at the start of your second paragraph. it kind of flaws your tradition.

There are one million Israeli Arabs, these should not be touched, they vote they have an Israeli ID and an Israeli passport they flaunt when they are abroad on vacation. We are taling about 1,8 million in Gaza that are really Egyptians and Saudi background and another 800,000 when jordan ruled Judea and Samaria for 18 years... hese are the people that should leave 1,200,000 Gazans plus another 800,000 that sneaked into Judea and Samaria makes exactly 2 million... None of the sort... there are from 45,000 to 70,000 non Israeli Arabs in Judea and Samaria, no one is pushing them out, the majority of these people are holding Jordanian papers and would have to make a decision. to swear allegiance to the country of Israel or ship out. There is also Arabs emigrating at the rate of 20,000 per year.
