' Officials in Standish, Maine rejected a lease proposal Tuesday for a local sportsman’s club hoping to operate a gun range on town-owned land.

Council members voted down the Standish Fish and Game Club’s proposal to lease approximately 150 acres of public land for its gun range at a price of $1 annually for 25 years. The deal, more than two years in the making, hit a snag in September when some residents learned the club requires its members join the National Rifle Association and the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine.'

    '
In an email dated Oct. 27 and provided to Guns.com this week, Standish resident Betty Perry encouraged others to block the club’s lease proposal, fearing a gun range would destroy the town’s atmosphere.

“These gun clubs want to move into these rural area where they hope that citizens will be asleep at the switch,” she said in the email. “This powerful gun lobby will own this town if we cannot keep this out'

    Nutjobbery in action.

It is highly unlikely the Government is going to be swayed by such a nebulous, specious, speculative even discriminatory objection.

    These people are morons.
NRA affiliation bring the possibility of NRA grants for range improvement, safety training, firearms instruction, and a host of other direct range-related benefits.

I wouldn't join that club just because I'm not paying dues to third parties.

They want a catch 22 to prevent range development, just as causing division and strife within firearms owners and N.R.A. has long been a goal of Anti Gun coalitions, and this goal is finally within reach since N.R.A. has always thwarted the Gun Ban Movement's efforts, so the ban movement can proceed unhindered, too late, N.R.A. has a sister, several in fact, and these will take it's place if need be.

The best part about living in the US? You have that choice.
At least until the liberals get what they want.

Then obviously you ignore N.R.A.'s. contributions to range safety and Instructor development since the early days, England's N.R.A. preceeded the U.S. by a bit, the shoots at Bisley, something they would soon forget and deny.

    Sure,
And if not for N.R.A. efforts,
You might not have a range or guns to use.

Ayuh,.... That town, just outside Portland is in the part of the state of Maine, known by the locals as North Mass, home of massholes,....

Which is where the Bloomberg gun ban ballot initiative was born a couple elections ago,...

No worries, if liberals ever get what they want, there won't be an NRA or ranges open to the public.

I would actually oppose such a deal on public land as well. Since its public land being leased, compulsory membership to a third party would seem to be a local government endorsement to said organization. I wouldn't want to see the same if some liberal group leased land and forced people to join some crazy liberal organization. Much better a range that's privately owned and open to the public, where members can receive perks, and guests can use the facilities without perks...

    Nobody can disband N.R.A.
N.R.A. is composed of individuals, members of the actual public, not just the CEO of S&W or Remington etc...

Haters of N.R.A. have alleged that N.R.A. is merely a shill for Firearms Manufacturers and this is false, N.R.A. represents individuals gun Rights and opposes legislation against firearms such as bans and restrictions that only affect Law Abiding people.

As opposed to the Tobacco lobby that has ZERO members of the smoking public, and ONLY represents the interests of the Tobacco companies and related interests and related industries.

If we let the Anti Gun clack dictate things like this, they have won.

Yet the A.M.A. has the same standing as a professional organization and how many people call them a Lobby ?
