    Guns R US(a) EDITED VERSION

Short version; I do ask that those that reply at least skim the long version to reduce redundant questions or those answered in the long version.

Ok this and following threads will address the political (global and local) issues as well as how to buy and use firearms. This will include a detailed vigorous look at types of firearms and the uses of guns accessories such as hi cap mags etc.

Since this is already long I will simply list the firearms I suggest for home protection. You should test fire any new weapon at a range before going into the field or needing it in an emergency situation. In point of fact, one should become intimately familiar with the firearms basic functions if using it primarily for home protection (an emergency). In other words turn off the lights get in bed. Then set your alarm. When the thing goes off at ungodly AM, train until you are able to easily find your weapon, then you should easily be able to find the safety turn it off and on, be able to chamber a round etc. Of course the weapon should be UNLOADED for these training exercises. Lastly for this thread I will list my preferences for general home protection. Ok the first talking point will be which gun is ideal to protect home and family. (really that is a misnomer, a gun is on a ship as my Army DI tells every new recruit).

I suggest if only one firearm can be had, and if it’s to be used exclusively for home protection make it a short barrel 12 gauge shotgun. Rationales; First scatterguns are fairly cheap for a quality weapon. Second is ease of hitting target. The pellets fan out immediately after leaving the barrel. Third, one can adjust the power and lethality of rounds by changing type of ammo. One can purchase non lethal rubber or wooden slugs (not recommended) to highly one shot drop kill expanding rifled lead slug with tungsten sabot or 00 buckshot (three .38 sized pellets in each shot) to everything in between.

I recommend the shotgun be a short barrel pump or auto. shotgun, preferably a pump or auto. I like a pump because it's extremely reliable and sturdy. I own two shotguns a turkey gun (but I do not hunt animals) a cammo type long barrel with iridium (read as glowing) night sights, and a Mossenberg 12 gauge pump with an 18“ barrel. The mossenberg is called the 'cruiser' and is a black riot gun. I love the stubby room cleaner and so I the reva, bestows the mossy cruiser with my highest award, five out of five stars. It holds eight rounds (extended tube) check your state and fed regs! As said the ammo makes a huge difference in effectiveness etc. So as an experienced shooter I load the 1st round with shot shells containing about 20 or 30 lead bb sized pellets in a mag shot shell mag is 3 and a half inches, for smaller or more tender shooters use the 2 and three quarters length shell. Rationale; Doesn’t over penetrate more smaller shot fans out into a larger pattern. Less likely to be lethal at longer ranges. Then after the first I load buck shot usually OOO or OO. That is much larger and fewer pellets in the shell. Rationale; More lethal, and more stopping power at range. Sure death at close range. The reason I do not name the brand name or common name of the shotshells is because the particulars of the shells vary widely with manufacturer. So when you buy learn the ammo vernacular and research the manufactures data etc.

Ok that’s all for the first part. Next which pistol is best for protection? I say a large heavy slow moving bullet is best. My fav is a .45 ACP. Least fav is a 9mm or smaller. Until next time…

    Budda budda bye
