The government needs the US relatively whole in able to continue with it's operations overseas. If a state/states attempt to forcefully secede from the country, not only will they be pile-drive, but they will be responsible for the nation sinking into something much worse. Because of them, it will authenticate our own troops being used against our own people, and they will be the first to become a police state. It will only get worse from there.

As elegant as it needs to be considering the IQ of this thread. The point is anyone who thinks they have a winning issue on breaking up the United States is day dreaming or, more likely, is just looking for another way to express hatred towards Obama. That's all this is.

It depends on which allegiance men in the military and police forces would choose to honor. The Milgram study is a bit disheartening.

"The states" did not file them. Fifteen petitions were filed for the US government to allow their secession, this does not mean it was the states themselves who filed them.

I still went ahead and signed my state's petition, because it is the case that I would rather not be subject to, or represented by, the federal government.

Here's an updated list of states for which petitions have been filed:

Alabama,Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana,Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

The Oregon and Alaska petitions are the most sensible, because they are petitions for a statewide vote on the matter, instead of petitions for secession on behalf of the entire state. But again, why file the petition? If they want to vote on it they should just vote. And, shouldn't these people be petitioning their respective states to put the matter to a vote?

If Alaska petitioned I would move there in a heartbeat.

But it's so cold. I remember taking off hood and gloves at twenty degrees because it felt like it was really warming up. And the confusing daylight hours makes it really hard to put kids to bed. Half the year they have a really good argument, because they're right, it's not even dark yet, and it won't be.
