I am going to assume that most of the posters here care about this country and only want the best for her. So on that note what alternatives to mail-in voting, NOT THE ABSENTEE VOTING PROCESS, would you suggest?

I have already contacted my State Senators and Congressman to suggest starting the early voting process on 9/4/2020, like in North Carolina, but going 7 days a week @12 hrs. a day. 0800 - 2000. Surely to God, someone could get to a voting station sometime within the 720 hrs. available to vote.

I think that's a great proposal. They could set times in which you can set an appointment, to ensure that people don't show up in large numbers at the same time.

Mail-in voting and absentee voting, is the same thing here in Florida. Where Trump will vote. Here, something like that would be an excellent complement to mail-in voting.

In the past, I have talked about online voting. But it would probably be impossible to implement before the next elections. Online voting can be made virtually tamper-proof. And I think we could have it for the 2024 elections.

Why would we ever listen to Donald dumb-ass Trump about mail-in voting? He is an ignoramus and a corrupt would-be autocrat. We don't need any alternative to mail-in voting. His baseless claims that it will somehow be fraudulent are just that and are not worth listening to, let alone basing any changes in the coming election upon.

I would worry about it. Electronic systems are always more prone to tampering since well-funded foreign hacking groups have the potential to gain access through the internet, and security is always imperfect thanks to the human element. A couple of teens got deep into Twitter just recently.

Apples and Oranges. Vulnerabilities you would find in commercial sites like Twitter or Facebook or on shopping sites, are easy to patch up in a voting system. Somebody directly hacking into a server would not be a major concern. In the sense that it is not difficult at all to harden by competent IT security professionals. That would not be a concern. There are other concerns, but not somebody hacking into it or changing votes or anything like that.

In regards to mail-in voting...“Trump is clearly seeking to undermine the legitimacy of the outcome should he lose. If he wins, he’ll say he did so in spite of fraud, and if he loses, he’ll claim he did so because of it.”

The early voting stations in Ohio are all in the inner city by design of the Democrats who run the big city county seats. I have no reason to go into Cleveland for any reason. My g/f was held up at gunpoint in Cleveland. She isn't going there either.

Pay attention to the news. CBS tried to prove Trump wrong about the sanctity of the mail-in vote in a test with no motive for signature Democrat cheating. The USPS failed the test when it didn't mean anything.

Once again dummy Trump was right and you geniuses were wrong.

You must start to answer your question by declaring the fact that ALL Americans cannot vote using a single process. Can't be ALL in person, or ALL by mail, or ALL by computer, etc.

The next thing to consider; is it actually possible to collect ALL votes from ALL Americans? Perhaps it should be defined that a minimum of 80% of eligible voters is considered good? The key I believe is that no American is prohibited from casting their vote by whatever means available.

The next thing I suggest is allowing a full month to vote. No matter the means of voting, Americans have a full calendar month to cast their ballots. And during this time no interim voting data can be communicated to anyone.

Lastly, any type of voting can be corrupted...as long as humans are involved somewhere in the process. There needs to be full enforcement of our voting process and appreciable punishment for those who cheat the system.

Until the US and it's citizenry take voting seriously, until voting is considered a sacred privilege, until the process is enforced and violators punished, we should all expect the status quo...

Mail in voting and Absentee Voting is EXACTLY the same here in Connecticut. My understanding is that is the same story in virtually every state. Since I am working at the polls for the Primary ( as I will in November) I personally picked up my ballot a couple days ago. Reason for absentee ballot for me is that I do not vote in the district that I will be working in and cannot leave once I get there not even for food which is brought in. We report at 5:00AM and stay until after the polls close and we go through all of the security steps involved with ballots and machines.

I don'tknow what kind of DUMB ASSES we hav4 runnig our elections on antiquated old non computerized equipment THIS IS THE 21ST. CENTURY not 1900. Mail in and Absentee ballots for every state should be IDENTICAL in design and layout specifications with specific instruction as to how your candidate selection be colored in so that they could all be run through a single design of optical scanning machine to quickly count them. We are an IDIOT NATION when it comes to our election process. Everything should have been computerized years ago. We should be voting from home on our PC's or Cell Phones!!!!

What could possibly go wrong with that???
    Better plan,
    National holiday
    Polls open 24 hr.
    Photo ID required
    Machine ballot with paper backup
Every voter has their finger dipped in ink

All mail voting. Fingerprint used instead of signature. Ballots are validated using software. Quick, efficient and tamperproof.

I've suggested that for firearms and got slammed.

However could you imagine law enforcement having a name and address to attach to half the country's population?

I worked the function of counting absentee votes. Each person who gets an absentee ballot is known and that fact is recorded on the voter registration data base. As absentee ballots come in ( in a general election) two people one Democrat and one Republican handle the ballots. We follow protocol which includes checking for tampering of the envelopes. The inner envelope is taken out of the outer and stays sealed. The name and address is checked to determine if that person was given an absentee ballot. If that person was than we mark that person's name and verify that thecreturn address matches the registered voter data base print out . An indicator is noted that an absentee ballot was received from that voter. At that point the envelope and the ballot are separated each put in a separate pile so that no one can see how that person voted. So if additional ballots are received from that voter we have a problem but only one ballot can be counted it is the first one. I never seen that happen.BTW the ballots are a certain color that changes every voting cycle.
Now I got an absentee ballot and will be returning it to the town clerks office. My voter registration record is noted that I was given an absentee ballot. So if I was stupid enough to show up on Election Day and try to vote the checker will see that I was given an absentee ballot and I would not be allowed to vote in in person.

Is any system fool proof. Most likely not but it would take some doing to really pull off an undetectable fraud.
