Canada has a lower abortion rate than does the USA.

And, in Canada there are no laws against abortion. In fact, their healthcare system pays for abortion.

Your idea that women need the help of prosecutors and politicians to make health care decisions is not only harmful to women, it is a flat out insult.

How paternalistic could you POSSIBLY be that you would think that a woman and her doctor should NOT BE ALLOWED to make her own healthcare decisions???

We've been over that and discussed that before in other threads.
It's due to other reasons that have nothing to do with abortion laws.
Don't try to go off topic. If you want to discuss that, you can provide a link to another thread. (But I know you won't)

Also if you're curious, the abortion rate in Maine is 8.8 whereas in Canada it is 15.2

You have no reasonable defense here. And, if that's the percent of pregnancies ending in abortion in Maine, that is a serious outlier, as the American average is more than 20%.

And, it is Maine women you are complaining about!

But this thread is about Maine, isn't it?

(And if you want to know something, the reason Maine is probably an outlier is it is so far north in the U.S. and has a 93% white population. Actually the majority of the population in Maine lives at about the same latitude as the majority of the population of Canada; Portland actually being just a tiny bit farther north than Toronto)

The question is why are you whining about Maine???

It's nice and white, with a low abortion rate (according to you) - what more are you asking for?

Probably the majority of the cause of what the abortion rate is in various places does not have to do with differences in what the laws are.
But that doesn't mean the law cannot have a significant effect.

But keep in mind in almost all these places the law permits abortion in the earlier stages of pregnancy, so differences in law would not be expected to have a big effect on the overall abortion statistics.

    Remember that.

The largest effect isn't on the number of abortions.

You demand to ignore the damage to women's healthcare.

Also, you want to ignore the differential availability that comes from other factors such as wealth, location, the know differences in when a woman detects that she's pregnant, factors related to rape and incest, etc.

Please start another thread on the alleged connection between Pro-Life abortion laws and damage to women's healthcare.
Or give some specific examples of how the previous law in Maine could harm women's health. Especially if you can find any real life examples to share that would be applicable to this specific type of change in law (even if those examples happened in some other part of the U.S.)

I doubt you will care to do either. You will just continue to complain about "women's health" with vague arguments.

No, that's an issue RIGHT HERE. It is not some separate issue.

Maine just closed the door on prosecutors and legislators having an opportunity to claw their way into hospital rooms where doctors are treating women.

No, that is not like it used to be.

It used to be that a doctor could perform an abortion without being subject to second guessing by a prosecutor.

This new law does NOT allow that, as there are serious health conditions of the fetus and the woman that can't be described as "death".

And, the doctor'sjudgement is still up to question by prosecutors.

I was referring to my link. Did you look at my link? That’s how it used to be before these brainless bans.
