Yes I agree. We also now know its unlikely to be caught from flat surfaces as once espoused. But at the time when the virus was very prevalent two things happened.
1, Even low quantity spread is higher if there's enough virus about.
2, We knew it could spread these ways, but we didn't know what the risk level actually was, so we erred on the side of caution.
A third problem is that people want black and white answers to grey questions.
The fourth problem is the number of people who have purchased a retrospectoscope to view historical decisions and brag how clever they are.

 

If you put the mask on in the shop and remove it outside, its a win win. You don't spread it is a confined environment and the virus you captured in your mask dies over a few hours.
BTW. If you were breathing virus onto the inside of your mask its because you already have it and its breeding happily and must faster inside your warm wet body.

 

Thank you. Admittedly, I am clever. However I'm no authority on epidemiology. I have to lean on the best available science, and over the past year, the experts have been woefully inadequate in providing that. That was the point of my posting of that WHO tweet from last year that triggered you so. I sure didn't mean to upset you, but rushing in to defend the people who f'd up and constantly feed us garbage information seems silly.
