Just wondering if anyone here raises, slaughters and cooks their own meat animals?

I've thought about it, but I don't think I'd be able to go through with it. I'm afraid I'd start to view them as pets and then not be able to have them butchered

It is a concern for most of us when we start off. I am told the trick is to NOT name them. I think its better to know your meat had a good life and was raised "right" than to buy supermarket meat that has been "farmed"

I'd likely grow attached, whether I named the animal or not. I don't think I'd have the guts to kill it when it views me with trust.

Could you raise a lamb and then send if off to be done then? I know some people that do that and the animal comes back to em all packed and labeled.

Probably not. I get attached to animals very easily! I'd buy meat from someone else, though.

I'm kind of a hypocrite on this issue. I'm more than willing to eat meat, but I don't think I could kill something I've been raising and taking care of. I can't even hunt... I haven't for years. But since I'm willing to eat meat, I'm not going to criticize someone who raises livestock or hunts. I'd imagine I could hunt or farm under different circumstances though, if that's what I had to do to eat.
