The number one killer of men between the ages of 1 and 44 in the US is accidents. Men, what do you have to say about this? Is it because you are more adventurous or doing more stupid things?
Probably a combination of both. As a kid I did plenty of stupid things that might have killed me but it was as an adult that I really took risks. Pushing a powerful motorbike to 10/10ths over mountain passes on early Sunday mornings was one of them. Climbing those same mountains was another. Diving and sailing have their dangers too. In each one of those activities I had some close calls but I still went out and did them again. That was just what we did together.
It's the testosterone poisoning that does it. That said, accidents are also the number one killer of women between the ages of 1 and 44.
No, that isn't true. I looked it up. If you think it is true, please provide a reliable source for this knowledge claim. - - - Updated - - - Really? Between the ages of 1 and, say, 18, men have more dangerous jobs?
It is because women nag us to death to do things we shouldn't be doing in the first place so eventually we would rather risk dying than have to listen to you gals complain over and over and over again about things like how tacky it is to have trees growing out of the gutters and such.
You do realize a man is like 25 and older... You're talking about boys NOT men. The simple fact you even tried to imply a little boy or a teenage boy is a man goes to show how far you're willing to take this...
That's not happening anymore - equal rights means equal work... If a woman want's me to do something crazy I say "nope, you do it".... I'm not doing all this man crap anymore they can go do it.... Their free pass is gone..... You better believe they have no desire to do dirty jobs when they need to be done....
Yes. First time I broke any bones was a hang gliding accident when I was 25 but I was lucky to get that old.
It's primarily because of a subset that exists within men to a greater degree than women. Men are more likely to have that aggressive "Need For Speed" type tendency, but the overwhelming majority of men don't. Women, however, are more likely to be in accidents, but they are not as likely to be in severe accidents. That is largely because, stereotypes or not, the kinds of reckless behavior associated with men (speeding, aggressive lane changes, etc.) are far more deadly, but are taken by fewer men, whereas the reckless behavior associated with women (doing makeup while driving, texting while driving etc.) are more common, but also less deadly - people doing these things rarely exceed the speed limit or make sudden movements while driving, as doing things like your makeup requires you to be steady.
using 2013 data (latest CDC has) http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/dvs/LCWK1_2013.pdf CDC: Start on page 23 of the above, which contains death by females. If you look at the charts, you will see accidents being the main cause of death up until age 35-39, then it's the second cause of death at age 40-44. The difference being about 1700 deaths at age 40-44. If you add all of the female data through age 44, you will find accidents to be the major cause of death. Now that I've proven you wrong, please show your spurious source of data. The CDC is my source, and I don't think there's much more a reliable of a source for health stats. The main difference between men and women at the younger ages is not cause of death, but the numbers of deaths. In 15-19, for example, women die at a rate of 10.6 per 100k of accidents, men die at a rate 23.5 per 100 k of accidents. If we look at total death rate (death by all causes), in that same age, women die at 26.4 per 100k men die at 62.3 per 100k.
Ego, stupidity, daringness, sometimes fearless, etc. As a teen I used to jump off a friend's roof (single story house) because we thought it was fun. In hindsight we could have really hurt ourselves.
The biggest killer of men under 40 in the UK is actually suicide not accidents. Accidents being more prevalent and damaging among men is obviously testosterone-linked.
Accidents is the biggest cause of death in young (under 44) women as well as young men. The difference is that almost twice as many men per capita die of accidents at the same ages as women.
Not here its not, well maybe under 44 certainly not under 40. Maybe Americans have more accidents, perhaps its the guns who knows.
Men are by nature more prone to engage in risky behavior, whether it's physical, financial, political, etc. Have you ever noticed the entire cast of the jackass movies are male? They do the most dangerous and stupid things, mostly for laughs (and money). Men are more willing to push the envolope, explore and discover new realities, and one cannot accomplish that without a good set of balls.
C'mon, are you really trying to compare all males to Jackass? I wouldn't do any of that.... Even the dumbest male wouldn't jump in thorn bushes or ride a shopping cart down a hill just for fun - those guys got paid to do that stupid (*)(*)(*)(*)... Of course there are guys that do that stupid (*)(*)(*)(*) on youtube - but they're getting paid too.
More people die in accidents because fewer people die of disease in that demographic. It's been that way forever, I believe Generally, if you get to 5 you will probably make it to 70 and it's always been that way. (the lower average ages of bygone centuries were due to the much higher rate of infant deaths. That people all keeled over at 35 is a misconception). Those numbers start to decline by 50 and really pick up by 60 but they still are exceeded by accident. Once you hit the Biblical 3 score and 10 however, the warranty is up. As to why it's more men than women that's because more men have dangerous jobs. That may be changing but it's one area of feminism where there's not a whole lot of pressure for some reason. And married men die before married women because the women don't have anybody telling them it's time to die.
Courage is as much a product of stupidity as fearlessness. A lot of generals illustrate this very well, they often get a reputation of courage when in fact they're just startlingly unaware of their surroundings. Quite a few of the guys on Jackass obviously have no idea that what they are going to do will hurt as bad as it does, (and quite a few are wearing cups and just faking it IMO)
Generals? c'mon... Generals fight enemies (at least the good ones did) and Jackass fought thorn bushes...
