There is a reason why the death counts are low or getting lower and that's due to the voluntary social distancing and staying at home unless absolutely necessary.

This issue is when people--under a false determination--that it's okay to now go out and mix with other people & unknowingly either become infected or if already infected, pass it along to others. Then suddenly you have 5 or 6 thousand new cases in a few weeks and the facilities become overwhelmed; we've seen it happen in NY and NJ on the first wave. Trust me you don't want to see it happen in Michigan or for that matter any other state and I believe the experts that we will get a second wave.

These so-called pushy politicians realize what they are doing isn't very popular but they are doing what they feel are in the best interests of their constituents; what politician really wants armed thugs showing up on their doorsteps whining about staying in their homes and social distancing? If they don't take action and your area ends up like NY or NJ, people are going to be pointing fingers at them saying "you didn't do enough" or something along those lines.

Of course people need to work, but if you end up dying, your job isn't worth much to you or your families; just ask the families of the NYC transit workers or EMS/Fire/Police who are considered essential workers. People have to ask themselves, is my life worth more then my job?

That's where you are wrong. If you think you can settle all the worlds ills by using guns, you are sadly mistaken, unless you live in Venezuela or some other third world country.

The mechanism is called election day. You don't like who's in office, then vote them out and put in someone who represents your values and viewpoints. It's worked for the most part since the founding of this country.

I’m not wrong at all, that’s why it exists and it is working. Your theoretical is directly countered by reality.

It’s been tried successfully, that’s why it exists and liberals know better than to start a civil war because of it

Most people aren't going to lose their life by going back to their job. Half the country kept their jobs and it's mainly healthcare workers and public transit drivers who are at most risk.

Anyone with a child who chooses to provide a paycheck or risk their life will risk it to provide that paycheck. Sheesh, most singles would rather work.

25% of the U.S. death counts are from nursing homes and not all of the states have publicized their counts of nursing home counts separately. They're hidden in the totals. That is very sad that this is hitting our seniors and people who are in very poor health, but we can isolate those clusters and everyone else can go back to their jobs before the business they worked for is forced into bankruptcy and people have no job to go back to.

We are about to experience a financial collapse larger than the Great Depression if we don't get back running in the next week or two. The effects of that are likely to hit society much harder than this virus.

So, protect the weak and vulnerable, and reopen the rest.

Venezuelans went for socialism and happily volunteered to turn in their guns. Look what happened.

Same thing that always happens eventually after a government convinces the people to disarm themselves.

This thread may be close to pooped out. Yesterday "Armed Protesters" was the news and trending on Twitter. Today, that's history and protests against Newsom is the "current event of the day" with "Huntington Beach" trending.

It's Friday. I expect tomorrow will be tough to pick a protest against government shut downs. There will be so many to choose from.

Eh. I feel it's less compassionate to waste your time explaining things that they will simply never accept. First hand experience seems to be the only thing they might understand.

And what is it then? It's a issue that if one side is wrong, then significant hardships to the people and medical system of the area and potentially spread further from there.

Usually a simple difference of opinion won't cause extraneous damage beyond the two individuals.

    I'm fine with that.

    See below

Double reply to the same comment: no. I don't like it when people suffer. But I have no issue with people having to face the consequences of their actions. Obviously nothing else is penetrating. It sucks but as I said, someones the kid has to touch the hot stove before they understand why their parents keep telling them not too.

Maybe the government overreached and was the one touching the hot stove.

The state police were there; if anyone threatened anyone, arrests would have been made.
Kinda sucks that the state doesn't have a monopoly on force, eh?

Thank you for continuing to demonstrate your lack of compassion for your fellow man.
Ah - you aren't familiar with the CV-19 related facts in MI, there three counties, all around Detroit, have significant presence, and the rest of the state has virtually none, to none.

I understand your need to support an authoritarian, but you should at least be honest about it.

    I disagree.

I'm always honest in my posts. No need to look for underlying views.

As for compassion "for my fellow man", I reject the premise of the statement. I have compassion for humanity as a whole, and the individuals in my life. The rest of you? A solid nothing from me. I don't know you or them. I don't know if your amazing individuals or worthless piles of flesh, so I therefore don't hold any opinion of you or they.

All I can comment on here is what is said and done. And congregating like that without knowing its safe is stupid. The leader of the North Carolina should have been example enough.

Sorry. The social Darwinism. The problem is who they take with them

Oy. The Dumb is spreading faster than the virus, from both sides of this issue. That is horrifying - there is no need to keep the beaches closed anymore.

I have no real issue with protests in general. I think these people did it wrong. The guns made for bad optics, IMO. The worst part is they mostly weren't wearing masks and were screaming in those officer's faces. It shows a total lack of respect for the police & their fellow citizens, in general. It shows they don't understand what this virus is doing, how it spreads and what exponential means.

One might suggest the public told governor Pelosi's nephew to go pound sand.
