Pence is pretty much of a non-factor in 2024. He reminds me of the old line Republicans who put up a paper tiger run against the Democrats and then rolls over and plays dead after they “fought the good fight.” In other words he represents another breed of RINO that doesn’t really stand for much of anything.

Trump picked him because he won’t give his boss much competition in headline stealing department. Obama picked Biden for much the same reason.

The sad and scary part is that vice presidents have come to considered “presidential timber” in recent decades. From the 19th century until 1960, they used “to ride off into the sunset” when their boss left office. Since then Nixon, Johnson, Humphrey, Ford, Mondale, George H. W. Bush, Gore and Biden have won their party’s nomination or become president. It really drives home the fact that picking a vice presidential candidate needs to be something more than afterthought or politically expedient. Image if Spiro Agnew or Sarah Palin had made it to the White House.

 

Mr. Michael Pence's positions and actions, excluding his one moment in the sun when he presided over the certification of the 2020 presidential election results, are testament to the belief that church and state do not pair well.

Just goes to show how classless Pence can be. A Christian joking about another Christian's faith. Perhaps he's trying to appeal to the Christian vote, but that sure isn't the way to go about it.

That's a game that I refuse to play. I have only one standard to determine whether a person is a Christian or not and it has nothing to do with their behavior.

 

Based on your standard there is no way you could think Trump is a christian. Glad we cleared that up.

He wasn't joking about another Christian's faith. He was joking about Trump.

Trump is not a Christian. Pretending he is, dilutes everyone else's faith.

 

My belief doesn't align with your belief about what makes a person a Christian. Jesus didn't come to reform people's behavior. He came to save them from the harm of their behavior.

 

Trump isn't going to heaven if Christianity is true.

 

I disagree. If sin kept someone from heaven, no man will be going to heaven.

Sincerity has nothing to do with it. I've met plenty of sincere Christians who sinned every day of the week but Sunday.
