DALLAS (AP) A 22-year-old mother was facing child abuse charges Friday after police say she glued her toddler daughter's hands to a wall, kicked her in the stomach and beat her over a potty training issue. Joselyn Cedillo, 2, was on life support with multiple internal injuries at a Dallas hospital Thursday, The Dallas Morning News reported (http://dallasne.ws/pKJtEb ). A hospital spokeswoman told The Associated Press she had no information on the girl Friday. The newspaper, citing police records, said glue and paint were stuck to Joselyn's palms, and that skin had torn away in places. Joselyn's mother, Elizabeth Escalona, was crying and hysterical when she called her own mother Wednesday morning from her Dallas apartment, according to police records. The records show that when the grandmother arrived at the apartment, her granddaughter was unconscious on the floor. She took her to the hospital. One of the girl's brothers said their mother kicked the child in the stomach and beat her with a belt and shoe, according to police records. Another sibling said she couldn't sleep during the night because she heard her mother yelling and the girl crying. She said Joselyn had been having difficulty with potty training. She said Escalona dragged Joselyn by her feet from the kitchen to another part of the apartment, put glue on her hands and stuck them to the wall. "This is beyond abuse," said Dallas police Sgt. Brenda Nichols. "This is torture." A pediatrician said the girl had "severe life-threatening head and internal injuries" and was in a coma, according to police records. Escalona is being held on $500,000 bond on a felony injury to a child charge that carries a sentence of up to life in prison. Her attorney didn't immediately return a phone call from the AP seeking comment. Child Protective Services has taken custody of the girl and her three siblings, said agency spokeswoman Julie Moody. And yet... It is the policy of the state to reunite the family so unless this woman voluntarily surrenders parental rights, the probable result is that she will one day regain custody of her children. After she takes parental classes of course, and says all the right things to her social worker....
That is horrible. How sad and terrible for the child. I will pray for the little girl, since that's all I can do.
She will need your prayers, because one day CPS will give her back to her mother, and then something worse will happen.
This woman should be tortured to death. Her daughter should be sterilized upon reaching puberty, as should anyone related to her, no matter how distantly. Break the cycle.
You couldn't be more wrong. This appears to have been the sole actions of the woman in question and sudden violent outburst on the part of the woman, but it wasn't genetic. In fact it was the grandmother who was the one to rescued the kid though a luckily timed visit. No one should be held accountable except the woman who did the crime.
Her daughter is permanently damaged...if she recovers (it might actually be better if she doesn't, psycho-Mom can't have done anything good to her mental state), she will more than likely continue the cycle of violence. Better to nip it in the bud. Break the cycle.
There is NOTHING that indicates a victim of abuse is MORE THAN LIKELY to commit abuse! Victims of abuse can be MORE LIKELY to commit abuse than others, but the statistical gain is by no means amounting to "MORE THAN LIKELY"!
Many of the kids of Latinos are victims as soon as there born.Thats because there used for the benefit of the parent. Now that the leftist obama has pretty much said hes giving them a free ride,they will now start to terminate them. Second kid in less than a month where the parent tried to kill there kid.
There is no evidence she is a liberal, or a conservative, or a Christian, or anything else. What she is is a scumbag who nearly beat her daughter to death, and I hope she is thrown into a tiny cell and is never allowed to see daylight again.
This is child abuse. That parent should lose her children and face her deserved penalty. Hopefully the little girl will be able to get out of the hostile living situation with little to no mental issues from it - these things can pop back up later in life and spur problems.
OH MY GAWD! A 2 yr old baby! That cop is absolutely right - that psychotic monster was TORTURING HER! Eventually some dam worthless judge is going to give those kids back to her just b/c she took parenting classes and was told how to 'love & nurture' her kids........ This makes me sick!
Don't worry, it happens here, too. Child Services can be aware of a family and know kids are being abused, and when a child dies, they insist they had nothing to do with it. If this child is sent back with her mother and she is injured again, then the judge should be held responsible.
Parental rights CAN be stripped from the parent IF there's a judge who has enuf brain power and compassion for the child(ren) rights......... let's just hope he/she is out there and will do the right thing for these kids by realizing parenting classes don't work for all of them and there are some parents who should NEVER have kids. But more often than not, they DON'T!
