(French but not catholic) Yes and no, there was reccuring case of paedophilia there who concerned the catholic church, portraying catholic priests as paedophiles was kind of a reccuring dark humour joke. I can't say I'm really surprized. Debatable, the commission that established that number was also called by the bishops. It's unlikely they took that action without his consent. In that kind of cases, I'm a little bit parted away : here is the size of the horror has been revealed, but that's like some sports that get a heavy reputation for doping : they did also because they took some efforts to uncover those cases. We know because there was an effort to uncover this cases. The question is : are rabbis or Imams cleaner on that matter or is the omerta just too strong there ? As far as I know, there was also some problems with buddhists monks about sexual abuse, but I don't know the size of the problem. On another side, we could also consider that french catholic church made those efforts, late, very late, we're speaking of those scandals since the 80's ? They took 35 years to really consider the problem, without considering the members of the catholic church, high ranking members that protected them.
