Senator Bob Dole 'served long and honorably': Hume

Senior political analyst Brit Hume reacts to passing of former senator and presidential candidate Bob Dole on 'Fox News Live.'

Progressive MSNBC anchor Mehdi Hasan posted what many considered to be an inappropriate dig on former presidential candidate Bob Dole’s passing.

The Kansas Republican passed away at age 98 on Sunday morning after approximately four decades of serving in the Senate. Dole most famously ran as the Republican presidential nominee in 1996 against President Clinton.

The New York Times highlighted Dole's military and public service in a tweet announcing his passing, but Hasan used the tweet to also highlight Dole’s support of President Trump.

MSNBC can’t even mark the passing of an important national leader without attacking him for a position he took on an issue. The man was an injured war hero, a congressman, a senator, a candidate for VP and for President and yet small minds attack. Almost as bad as grave dancing.

I’m glad that Fox News reported on this news story and exposed MSNBC for their take on reporting the news of Senator Dole’s passing. Waiting for the MBFC report on how biased Fox News supposedly is.

    Wow...
    "appears to downplay"
    "what many considered"
"Critics called out Hasan for what they took as to be"

^A Lot of very strong OPINIONS, siding with the dearly departed.

My Opinion would be more in line with this (from your link):

Bob Dole went all-in with Trump: ‘I'm a Trumper.’ He knew better, but this is what he chose in his final years. So, I'm going to hold off on the predictable whitewashing of our elected officials' actions," Daily Beast columnist Wajahat Ali tweeted.
Progressive writer Aaron Rupar wrote, "A significant part of Bob Dole’s legacy is his staunch support of Trump. He said ‘I’m a Trumper’ as recently as July."
"Accurate reporting on former Senator Bob Dole's life will note he served his country admirably for decades, as a soldier and elected leader, before casting his lot with Donald Trump and maintaining that support, even after the insurrection against the United States on January 6th," former Obama administration official Brandon Friedman said.

    ^Those OPINIONS are Spot-On.

And, I really don't care if Dole won the Medal of Honor with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.
His legacy is forever tarnished by throwing his lot in with a despicable POS like Trump. Period!

    Typical biased msm.

One interesting stat, Trump got the highest numbers of black support since Bob Dole.

A read of the entire Fox News news article shows that it is a news report about who another network and persons affiliated with it were reporting on the news event in question. If Fox News put this in their news section and NOT their opinion section, then I will do the same here regardless of what you think about it. And no one you quoted took the time or effort to write an op Ed article about their opinion. Fox made it news by reporting on what was said about Sen. Dole by his grave dancing detractors.

You have GOT to be kidding!!!!
I have never heard of this journalist. I did not care for that tweet, because although it does just make a statement of fact, it does obvioulsy seem to be written to criticize Dole who had just passed away. And I must admit, I had forgotten that facet of Dole's life, so it was not completely lost on me (Dole did go on to say that Trump had in fact lost the 2020 election and had not proven any fraud, so there is that). Still. Indeed, had this been part of a larger recap on Dole's career, I would have had no problem with it, as a single tweet, I did not like it.
NOW, it surprises the heck out of me that any of you right wingers here would feign shock at this and find this distasteful after Trump (not some journalist no one has ever heard of) the president of the united states and the standard bearer of the republican party would make such distasteful remarks about John McCain, John Lewis, and Colin Powell, the last one less than 24 hours after his death. Three times! Talk about graceless petulant child!
I really would have thought you guys would just sort of leave this dog lie, but clearly your guys irony meter blew up in 2016.
    Shame on you

Bob Dole fought in World War II, paralyzed from the neck down, received two Purple Hearts (you don't "win" those), so political forum members could trash him freely after his recently deceased body was still warm.

I see one person here with a relatively harsh assesment of his career, resuming it to his Trump support. Don't see anyone trashing him. I for one have great respect for what he achieved in his lifetime though there are serious contentions I also have with some of his decisions in his career (not his personal life). That though, is for another day.
FWIW Dole was not paralyzed from the neck down. His right arm was paralyzed, and his left arm forever numb after suffering incredible injuries during WWII requiring 7 operations. He learned to write left handed. Can't imagine going through that. But not paralyzed from the neck down

Trump's graceless shortcomings he wore on his sleeve. I'll criticize this MSNBC clown at will and shame on you for having a problem with that.

Fair enough. I didn't realize that you thought that Trump was a graceless, petulant child. I totally agree with you.
Can't say I really heard many Trump supporters call him out for that sort of behaviour. Wish you guys were more vocal about it. As I said earlier, I did not like the MSNBC fellow's one sentence tweet about Dole. No problem with you criticizing him. Just wish you guys held Trump to that standard. You had three much worse opportunities to call him out on that sort of behaviour and all I can remember here is silence, or doubling down on that behaviour, and encouraging it.

Glad to hear you (finally) admit the OBVIOUS.
    Baby Steps...:flagus:

In any event, back to Dole, he completely destroyed his legacy by Supporting Trump.

And, I don't care if Dole was a Veteran..
And, I don't care what else that Dole did...
And, I don't even care if Dole made St. Francis look like Charles Manson...

Dole's "Legacy" is Permanently STAINED by Ever Supporting a Despicable POS like Trump...

Trump had his obvious shortcomings, he never tried to conceal them, but, he did a damn good job as president, and that's what mattered to me, but, he's history now and I'm looking forward to new talent being elected in 2024.

Had he been an anti-Trumper, you'd be tearing him down and dancing on his grave. Just like the Trumpers did with John McCain. Selective outrage.

LOL. A political board poster with fascist leanings and a marriage to an ideology that has failed everywhere it's been tried has the audacity to post about an accomplished American. Dole was accomplished b4 he expressed his appreciation that Trump was able fix the disaster Obama-Biden left behind. It must have crushed him to watch Biden's dementia destroy the country once again.

Why is offensive to mention it?

It seems like Trump is becoming a taboo in the populist circles.

I take is FOX refused to mention Dole's support for Trump to be politically correct.

    Good Morning all.

I must preference the following by acknowledging that Dole did much good and was a nice man.

As politics has long been a love of mine and the misguided exportation of our jobs and industries has long been a hot topic for me, I recall, with some help from my notes, the following.

After being publically outspoken about his opposition to bringing GATT 94 to the floor of the Senate, why did Dole flip-flop despite getting thousands of daily constituent communications urging him not to do so? Was it a threat to reveal something about him, corporate pressure, a cash payoff, a promise that he could run for president, or a combination thereof?

I left a sickbed and waited in the cold for hours to ask Dole a question. I was not allowed into his speech to ask it. (I imagine it was because my question couldn’t be prescreened.) When he left his speech, he shuffled sideways towards his limousine while surrounded by media and signing autographs. I asked him twice to ask a question; both requests were ignored. My third request was answered arrogantly with, “Is it a real question?” I responded yes and proceeded. I don’t remember my exact words, but I mentioned the solid opposition of his constituents to GATT 94 and asked, “Do you represent your constituents, or are you marching to a different drummer?” He grunted, continued shuffling towards his limousine, then got in it, never answering my question. Most all the media present displayed broad grins as I shivered.

Shortly afterward, I spoke with two trusted friends who watched when Pres. Clinton and Dole announced Dole’s change of heart. Pres. Clinton spoke first. As they crossed on stage, my friends said that by watching P. Clinton’s mouth, it was clear that he told Dole, “Don’t f**k this up.”

Subsequently, when Dole published his book, I hoped it would reveal some inside workings of Congress and why he flip-flopped on GATT. I never read the book, but I didn’t have to because, if he had, such revelations would have been plastered throughout the media.

Fred, remember Clinton's first scandal after he became President? It was called filegate. Dole and my mother were both victims.
Knowin that Woodward and Bernstein's first clue following the Watergate breakin was that a sriend of the President was checking out books and articles from the Library of Congress about Ted Kennedy, Clinton took no chances.
He got the FBI to take out the files A-H I think, so he could study all they had about Dole, Gingrich, Bush and my mother (Cole).
No one cared because no one was naked, but we can only guess how many acts of blackmail followed. I'll estimate 25,000.
