Must we really hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters?

Yes. Paul is like the Pope. All about power and control.

I don’t see how it was a sacrifice. In what way is he dead if he lives on as a spirit being?

    Yes, hate your family.

    It's a Christian thing.

God says do not even believe him, remember when he told a father to kill his own son, then said... just kidding

God's got a warped sense of humor, demands complete loyalty, and is so jealous, he goes by the name Jealous

Honor your mother and father is not one of the Ten Commandments. You should know that by now. it is just a regular commandment.

Paul created the Jesus character to serve as a focal point for his resurrection religion. Other writers wrote the backstory to flesh the character out. It is like the various writers who wrote the Islamic hadiths about Mohammed hundreds of years after Mohammed had supposedly bitten the dust.

As it says in the Bible, the "teachings" of Jesus are really irrelevant. The whole idea behind Christianity is the resurrection of the Jesus character and without that core belief the religion is worthless.

You may wish to review the story in Acts chapter 5:1-11. Peter killed those who didn't line his pockets.

Even the master extortionist Moses wasn't as greedy as Peter was.

Actually not just a "spirit being", He is the Creator incarnate. It was a sacrifice because he is the only begotten Son......a one time thing. He felt all the agony any human would. He rose on the third day and Thomas examined His wounds. He ate food with the disciples before he ascended.

To me it simply means to put your life behind you, and put Jesus in front of you and follow him and/or his gospel of salvation. Otherwise, your life and family will pull you elsewhere. It's a reprioritizing of values. Later in his ministry he told his followers that their fellow followers were their family, Father, Mother, siblings, etc. It sounds cultish and dark. But in my limited experience, it is sensible, and not so much evidence of animosity but of fidelity to the greater thing. For instance, my roots go back to a variety of nations. But I am completely an American. As such, one might say that I hate the attachment or entanglement to the old. But I can't make them American. So I sever that bond, that I might have one country, or one God and one Savior. Still I admit that hate is a strong word. Perhaps something was lost in translation?

I always considered it meant Hate by comparison. God's love is so much greater than ours, if we experience that love, it is so much greater than the love we previously held for our parents, relative and loved ones. I think, Injeun, you grasp that concept. It is not for everyone posting here.....but "to those who have ears, let them hear"!

We are supposed to hate sin are we not? Even as we love the sinner.

It is a good admonition of letting sentimentally and family ties cause you to give people a pass on sin.

Just remember, if God loves you he will beat the crap out of you on a regular basis. The greater the love, the more severe the beatings. If you haven't been beaten lately, then God doesn't love you. He really loved those people in Kentucky.

All religions have some value because they give people something to hope for as they are being overwhelmed by life's events. Of course it can be considered a major delusion but it does help some people to cope when they are faced with major problems.

But there are no celestial Gods of any kind in this solar system and all religions are just ethnocentric religious fairy tales created by con men to gain power and influence over their more superstitious buddies.

That passage does not say that Peter killed that man or his wife.

If you are going to post on a religious forum, it would be nice if you knew the fairytale well enough to discuss it.

Hebrews 12:6 (CJB) = For Adonai disciplines those he loves and whips everyone he accepts as a son.”

Hebrews 12:6 (TLB) = For when he punishes you, it proves that he loves you. When he whips you, it proves you are really his child.”

They were alive and well until they met Peter and then they were dead. Get a clue.

Be sure to let us know when one of those elusive imaginary creatures proves to the world (or to you) that it is real.

That does not mean Peter killed them.
