...is not needing to play mental gymnastics to defend what's clearly nonsense.

I made the terrible mistake of listening to the inane whine that is Sam Harris once. Atheists ain't what they used to be.

    My favorite aspect of atheism

I get to go to hell eventually. There are rumored to be NO CHRISTIANS there.

No world view requires mental gymnastics once you're in it. All of them, atheism included, requires mental gymnastics in response to certain outside stimuli. Seems to me what you're saying might as well have been "my favourite aspect of atheism is that I am already convinced by it".

Apatheism doesn't my position is simple until a deity shows up, gives demands and gives us clear guidelines and does something demanding a response as in bad (unleash plagues) or good (heals their followers of all disease and illness for life and their children and those in the community) then why bother with them and stop wasting our resources and time on them. That money can be used for things to really help the world. If all the money going to churches and taxes on that property from worthwhile uses could fund a new wave of art, science and technological advancement and on people using their resources sometimes limited to better themselves not incense and gold trappings and ministers of all kinds and making our species better in the long run. How well off would poor people around the world be if they used their meager donation money to do something useful send a child to school, save up and open a small business from home, learn a new skill, take trips to a library to spend a day reading or taking a vacation over giving it to some faith and groveling before a deity unproven and uncaring most likely.

And if they show up and say we are gods and goddesses and do nothing then why bother with them?

I considered atheism, but there weren't enough holidays.
