The Biden economy is doing pretty well by the measures Trump used to evaluate his own

During his first year in office, President Donald Trump repeatedly emphasized two metrics as he touted his success in turning the economy around: jobs and stock prices. By those two metrics, his successor Joe Biden is doing a pretty good job himself — even despite employment numbers being consistently adjusted upward after initial news reports.

I will note at the outset that this is not actually a very good way to evaluate a presidency. Presidents have some connection to the health of the economy, certainly, and it’s safe to say that the passage of a major stimulus bill early in Biden’s tenure meant his footprint was slightly larger than normal. Beyond that, though, politicians often like to take more credit for the economy than they deserve. However, these are things on which Trump focused, so it certainly seems fair to evaluate Biden against that same measuring tape.

So much winning! Are you tired of the winning yet? I'm certainly not.

    You only think I didn't.
    Boring.
    You are not interesting.
Have a long and safe life. Over and out (as in, I'm the one who is over and you're the one who is out, if you get what I mean).

Well, okay, but I really did think you caught the joke, not sure what would make you think otherwise. I'm sorry that you took it the wrong way.

Well I challenge that. I predict that no matter who wins the GOP nomination, you'll hate him or her. And as for Tulsi, she is hated by the Democratic Party, so no chance of her getting the nomination. She would have a better chance in the GOP race.

Why would I? Practically all my past votes have gone to Republicans and 3rd parties. Don't project your partisanship on me.

    That remains to be seen.

New poll out. Brutal for Brandon.

Republicans have the biggest lead in the 40 year history of polling.

    MORE GRIM POLLS FOR DEMOCRATS
    [IMG]
Dems aren't big fans of polls these days, in the last 10 months Dementia Joe's approval has been swirling down the drain.

What is shocking for Dems is the Congress question."If the election for the U.S. House of Representatives were being held today, would you vote for (or lean toward) the Republican or the Democratic candidate? Among registered voters, the GOP has a stunning ten-point lead, 51% to 41%. That is the widest pro-GOP margin since WaPo/ABC began asking the question 40 years ago."

They sowed the wind with "the rising cost of living, crime, Critical Race Theory in the schools, supply chain issues, the non-existent Southern border and incompetent foreign policy" and now they are reaping the whirlwind.

"59% say they are concerned that Biden will “do too much to increase the size and role of government in U.S. society.”"

It's painful watching posters trying to keep the drums beating for Biden while the polls show the ship is sinking. Perhaps playing "Nearer My God to Thee" might help?

Independents voted 54-41 for Biden, I should say against Trump, Biden just happened to be the alternative. Then a lot of them, call them ticket splitters voted for Republicans down ballot enabling the Republicans to pick up 13 house seats, 2 state legislature and a governorship. To be exact, while only 41% of independents voted for Trump, 48% voted for Republican congressional candidates, 51% for Republican senate candidates and 52% for Republican governor candidates. Their vote wasn't necessarily for Biden, anyone else would have done, it was against Trump or they wouldn't have voted Republican down ballot.

Certainly, independents are dissatisfied with the job Biden and company has done. No doubt about that. Biden isn't the president they thought they were getting. I think most independents who voted for him, thought Biden would bring us back to normalcy, back to saner times. Just sit in the Oval Office, act like an adult and behave presidential. Something Trump was a miserable failure at. Most thought Biden was a moderate Democrat, one who wouldn't push the progressive agenda. Biden has been a disappointment there. No doubt about that.

But most independents are happy Trump is gone. They don't want him to return. It's just independents expected better of Biden. Biden's job performance has left a lot to be desired. If this trend continues, the GOP will have a very good midterm. These independents who voted for Biden, against Trump, then Republican down ballot will vote GOP again in 2022. That I'm sure about. Just don't take dissatisfaction with Biden meaning independents want Trump back, they don't. Now some other Republican who has a decent personality and doesn't utilize childish antics like name calling and throwing of temper tantruns or use 3rd grade schoolyard bullying tactics, yes, they'd vote for that one.

I'm sure if Trump had the personality of a Reagan, even a Bill Clinton or an Obama, he'd have won reelection. He didn't and he lost. 2020 was all about personality, not about policy or politics as far as independents were concerned. Today, with Biden as president, it has turned back into policy and politics since Trump is gone. No longer about personality.

I just told you, so there is not need for you to wait 3 years. I'll be more than happy to vote for conservative candidate be is "R" or "D". Unfortunately it is unlikely we'll see one in 3 years. How about you? We don't have to wait 3 years to know you'll vote for anyone with later "R" behind their name even if that person is a raving idiot.

They voted simply to fire Trump. Looking at things now, these times are significantly "saner" than the 4 year clown show, so if they wanted "saner" times, then that's what we got. Its not because of Biden, it is only because of absence of Trump. Biden won't be running in 2024, so it will be interesting to see who each party will run.

Yes, Republicans will probably have good midterms next year, and not only because Biden's approval, but also because Dems are notoriously lazy when it comes to voting in midterms. We already have Republican activists knocking on our doors since we have a registered Republican in our household.

Today's GOP is no longer your neo-conservstive GOP run by the likes of G.W. Bush, Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney, for examples.

Independents believed the lies about Trump coming from progressives.

Maybe independents also want the federal gov't to play a much bigger role in everyday lives? Maybe independents hate Trump 'cause independents believe in a federal gov't which plays a huge role in everyday lives?...I mean, the federal gov't playing a huge role in everyday lives wasn't a priority of Trump in federal gov't. Maybe independents didn't like that Trump protected the interests of America?

It couldn't be that independents hated Trump 'cause Trump was 'meanspirited'. I mean, has anyone heard the meanspirited language about Trump coming from a Trump hater?:roflol:

Southern Fried, you're misinformed if you think A. Jackson is a lefty. A. Jackson purports himself to be conservative. IMO, Trump is the closest thing to a conservative the GOP has presented (or elected) as president in decades (since Reagan) yet A. Jackson detests Trump for some reason. Oh, I get it now, the president must be godly according to A. Jackson to be legitimate.:roflol:

Sidenote: BTW, I distinguish progressives as:
    (1) being left winged
    (2) being unable to compromise
    (3) believing in big government

The only difference between a neo-conservative (G. W. Bush, Liz Cheney and Romney, for examples) and a progressive is #1...The progressive is left winged while the neo-conservative is right winged..Maybe A. Jackson is a neo-conservative if A. Jackson believes in big gov't?

Please, I've been reading @Andrew Jackson posts for years and he's left. However claiming to be "conservative but" or "I'm Republican but" is a common posting tactic.
