Here on PF in a thread on leaving Afghanistan one person posted 'that means there's going to be another war'.

Money for war means money for weapons makers (aka 'Defense Industry') and that means money for lobbyists who pretty much run the government by funding election campaigns.

That goes for both parties. The vote for funding for the war in Afghanistan two decades ago went 99.8% in favor in Congress. Only ruthless dictators can top that.

If we keep doing the same things we will not get any better.

The weapons makers don't want their supply of money interrupted so one war just gets replaced by another.

How do we break out of that loop? Maybe ban lobbying? Maybe we could decide that buying the government is contrary to the democratic principle of one person one vote??

I would suggest the present choice between having the military dominating other countries, or our own country falling to pieces because an infrastructure plan will be done by politicians and the only people to benefit will be politicians, their friends and relatives, could be fixed by using the military here.

We need the Army Corps of Engineers to bring other military personnel back home to do the infrastructure work and get it right.

Another thing to fix is our commission-based healthcare. No other country I'm aware of has a money grabbing system. No other system is anywhere near as expensive and no other system is going downhill the way ours is either.

Although there is a lot that is unclear about the COVID pandemic, one country stands out as having failed to adapt in terms of adapting to what worked and what didn't and that was the U.S.

The reason appears to have been money.

The payment schedule was fixed in advance, of 12,000 dollars for each patient admitted to ICU and up to 39,000 dollars for each ICU patient put on a respirator.

So the expectation was the patients would be getting very sick and going on respirators, and plans for preventing patients from getting too sick tended to be ignored.

With 4.5% of the World's population, the U.S. appears to possibly have led the way with 15% of COVID deaths.

We could make the 'Peace on Earth' from the Christmas story come true, mostly true, by not starting wars ourselves.
