Here's our governor getting the business done again. Now private property owners don't have to go through the nightmare of having a squatters pretend to be legitimate and taking forever to get them the hell out of their property while they destroy it.

This is what leadership looks like. As of July the 1st squatters can be unceremoniously towed off of the property very quickly.

    Make Florida great again !

is there any sane person who actually supports the sort of protection that squatters have?

Only in blue states. All the Democrats living in tents is a pleasant thought.

I don't think he's the most bright, but he sure gets things done, and this is common sense!

He's unmatched in lining up enabling legislation that result in Conservative victories in the culture wars.

When the FBI tried to send in "election monitors" in FL and DeSantis showed them the legislation that they were not allowed without prior authorization, and the deadline had already passed, and sent them packing. He anticipated it, and had the enabling legislation in place. You may see him as "bright" but he sure seems to have his ducks lined up.

Not always, I think the 6 week abortion ban took him out of the presidential race, but, he's young, live and learn.

Hopefully this will cause some of the squatting lowlifes who makes squatting a way of life, to go find some blue state to be a parasite in.

    From the link.....

If you are the victim of squatting you can simply fill out a form, give it to your local sheriff and the sheriff is instructed to go and remove the people who are inhabiting your dwelling illegally," DeSantis said.

Lawmakers overwhelmingly passed the bill, which allows law enforcement to immediately remove squatters who don’t have a lease authorized by the owner of the property.

In addition, it creates strict criminal penalties for anyone who presents a false document purporting to be a valid lease agreement, deed, or other instrument conveying real property rights.

It's amazing this wasn't already a crime. Show police a fake lease so they will not evict you, then causing it to drag on forever in the court system.

I've never understood how you can just break into someone's vacant house and then claim it. Madness.

Incorrect. Pretty much every State has "squatters rights". They are terribly outdated, and should probably be overturned.

So perhaps De Santos can lead the way. I know in Oklahoma a Republican came up with a similar bill in 2023....and it never came up for vote. Have no idea why....but hopefully it will come back up.

I will say that in OK you have to live in a property for 15 years...and five of those the squatter had to pay Real Estate taxes...so could be that is stringent enough to deter squatters

Democrats use squatting as a social welfare program enabler. Always have. It produces so much extra legal services consumption, and as always, the process is endless so, more legal fees for their lawyer base.

Old laws don't need supporting, - they are in the books until removed. Remember laws criminalizing oral sex? That's the case with squatter laws. If there should be squatters rights, they should apply only when the property has been abandoned and the legal owner either can't be found, or doesn't care. It peaked in US during the great recession and after WW2, but has become a nuisance since then.

Yep, lawyers make a fortune from the property owners attempting to retrieve their rights. Pro bono squatter lawyers get to virtue signal, a real win-win.

On of the side benefits from the Trump harassment trials is that it has made many lawyers rich. The Fani Willis in Georgia got hundreds of thousands to play with. Of course the Trump defense lawyers are getting rich without saying.

Good on DeSantis, doing something good for a change instead of waging culture wars.

If you can break into a country and claim it as your own (thanks Joe), then you can certainly do it with a house

I would have loved to see Desantis as the nominee. He would have been a sure winner in the general election.

I don't think his problem was the abortion ban (especially in the Republican primaries).

His problem was that his lane that he appeals to in the primary was mostly the same as Trump's, and Trump's primary voters were already spoken for. People (especially the left) like to pretend like he ran a horrible campaign and try to pull the "I told you so", but I don't think that is the case at all.

His fundemental mistake was still running after he knew that Trump was as well. With that being the case, he never had a chance. He is young and will have plenty of future opportunities.
