A short time ago, relatively speaking, Steve Jobs died. You could not look a a news source for at least three weeks, without seeing an article praising him for being a 'visionary' (that word makes me puke now) I'm like WTF? Ok, I get the picture, he founded Apple. I'm sorry he died but he just was not that great of a man. The author of the article I linked to, Nobody cares that you're sad about Prince, points out the utter insincerity of these long, drawn our, periods of mourning. As I tend to be sardonic, I may appear to be abrupt about this but I have a real life and my true loves and concerns are anchored to the people directly involved in my life.

Anyways, this is my opinion.

Thu May 5, 2016 - Music superstar Prince's autopsy found the painkiller Percocet in his system, the Minneapolis Star Tribune and KSTP-TV reported on Thursday, citing sources close to the investigation.

Prince also had a dangerously low red blood cell count, indicating he had been ill, Minneapolis ABC affiliate KSTP-TV said, citing two unnamed law enforcement officials. A spokeswoman for the local medical examiner's office that conducted a post-mortem examination of Prince declined to confirm the reports. The cause of Prince's death remained undetermined. The medical examiner's office said in late April the autopsy and toxicology results could take weeks. The news reports came after federal authorities said on Wednesday they were joining the investigation into Prince's death.

Also on Wednesday, a lawyer for a California addiction doctor said Prince's representatives had contacted the doctor the evening before his death, adding that the doctor had planned to visit Prince for a "life-saving mission." The 57-year-old Prince was found dead on April 21 at his Paisley Park home-studio complex in a Minneapolis suburb. Prescription opioid medication was found at the scene, a law enforcement source told Reuters.

Dr. Howard Kornfeld, who runs Recovery Without Walls, a clinic in Mill Valley, California, planned to fly to Minnesota on April 22, his lawyer William Mauzy said. In the meantime, his son, Andrew Kornfeld, a clinic staff member, traveled to Minnesota on April 21 for an initial discussion. When Andrew Kornfeld arrived at Paisley Park, Prince was not available, Mauzy said. A staff member found the artist unconscious in an elevator, and Kornfeld called 911.

May 05, 2016 - For half a dozen years until his death last month, American musician and pop star Prince privately sent thousands of dollars to support Afghan orphans, a humanitarian organization in Afghanistan told VOA.

The pop star helped Kabul-based PARSA, an international aid organization that works with orphans and the disabled in Afghanistan, rebuild a training center for orphan boy and girl scouts in Kabul. We received a check for $15,000, Marine Gustavson, executive director of PARSA, told VOA in Kabul. It created for my staff a place to bring the kids together, a place to have a five-day workshop where the scoutmasters can stay and can do camp activities and works.

Kabul-based PARSA, an international aid organization that works with orphans and the disabled in Afghanistan, rebuilt a training center for Afghan orphan boy and girl scouts in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Because of Prince's donation, the number of children in the PARSA scouting program rose from 30 to about 2,000. "He was instrumental, Gustavson said. He donated to something we needed." He continued to donate to the Afghan scout program until the end of his life, she said, adding that Prince donated $6,000 a year after his initial gifts. The late pop star, however kept his philanthropy a top secret. Because of the kind of man he was, he did not want people to know about his philanthropy, Gustavson said. It was his secret. I just wanted to tell people to honor him. It is a side of him that most people do not know. I think it was special to him, and it was outside of the public domain.

Unknown to youths

The young scouts who benefited from Prince's largesse were equally ignorant of his identity. It is a rock star group, one of the girl scouts told VOA. I do not know his name. The history of scouting in Afghanistan goes back to 1931, under the founding leadership of King Nadir Khan. The program, however, diminished into nonexistence after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the late 1970s and the emergence of the militant Taliban into power.

According to PARSA, the organizations scouting program is designed to empower Afghan children and steer them away from the lure of extremist groups. The program currently has over 1,800 registered youths across 14 provinces. When he was alive, we did not know about the assistance he had provided, said Kamaal Sadat, Afghanistans deputy minister for youth affairs. We came to know about it after he passed away. We are saddened by his death. We are thankful to him. Be there more people like him in the world.

Investigators want to interview doctor about Prince case
May 7, 2016 A law enforcement official says investigators want to interview a California doctor and his son about a prescription drug the son brought for Prince before the singer was found collapsed in an elevator at his Minnesota home.

The official told The Associated Press investigators also want to know if Dr. Howard Kornfeld and son Andrew Kornfeld had a longer-term medical relationship with Prince. Neither is accused of wrongdoing.

The law enforcement official had been briefed on the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to the media.

The Kornfelds' attorney, William Mauzy, said Prince's staff called Howard Kornfeld on April 20. He sent his son on an overnight flight with the drug buprenorphine. Andrew Kornfeld found Prince unresponsive and did not administer the drug.

Medical records search warrant carried out in Prince case
May 10 2016 - A search warrant affidavit obtained by the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday revealed that a doctor who saw the late pop star Prince twice just weeks before his death and was at the musician's home when Prince's body was found had prescribed him medication.

The document said Dr. Michael Todd Schulenberg was at the star's Paisley Park Studios compound in suburban Minneapolis to drop off test results when Prince's body was found in an elevator on April 21. The affidavit said Schulenberg had also prescribed Prince medication, but did not specify what those medications were or whether the prescription had been filled. The search warrant was carried out on May 5 at North Memorial Medical Center.

Health system spokeswoman Lesa Bader told the Los Angeles Times that Schulenberg no longer works for the system. Barb Stevenson, a spokeswoman reached by Reuters, said she could provide no information on the case. Schulenberg, whose name was misspelled in the documents according to the Los Angeles Times, also could not be reached for comment on Tuesday night.

Detectives also revisited Paisley Park on Tuesday as "a component of a complete investigation," the Carver County Sheriff's Office said in a statement on Twitter, without providing further details. California doctor Howard Kornfeld was first contacted by Prince's representatives on April 20, one day before the singer's body was discovered at his home, attorney William Mauzy told reporters. May 11, 2016 -- If Prince was seeking help for a problem with prescription drugs, it would make sense for him to turn to a California addiction specialist known for new ideas on treatment. Less clear is why he sought care from a local family care physician with an unassuming resume who met with Prince twice in the weeks before his death and prescribed him unknown medications.

The day Prince died, he was scheduled to meet with the son of Dr. Howard Kornfeld, the California specialist in addiction treatment and pain management. But in the weeks before Prince's April 21 death, he met twice with Dr. Michael Todd Schulenberg, who worked at a Minnetonka clinic a few miles from Prince's Paisley Park studio and home, according to search warrant documents released Tuesday. Prince's cause of death is still unknown, as the autopsy results haven't been released. But a law enforcement official has told The Associated Press that investigators are looking into whether he died from an overdose and whether a doctor was prescribing him drugs in the weeks before his death. The official has been briefed on the investigation and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak to the media.

Investigators interviewed Schulenberg the day Prince died and searched a suburban Minneapolis hospital that employed him. The warrant documents didn't specify what medications were prescribed or whether Prince took them. The warrant details came out the same day investigators returned to Prince's estate and stayed for several hours without saying why. The official who spoke to AP said investigators are seeking to identify every doctor and pharmacy that may have supplied the singer prescription drugs, including online sources, and that the search involves examining computer drives from Prince's home.

It remains unclear why Prince, a world-famous musician worth millions, would seek the help of an experienced but seemingly ordinary local physician instead of first turning to world-class health care. The Star Tribune, citing a source with knowledge of the investigation, previously reported that Prince had been receiving treatment for withdrawal symptoms from a doctor who previously worked with Prince's longtime friend Kirk Johnson. Johnson's attorney, F. Clayton Tyler, didn't immediately respond to a message seeking to confirm that Johnson and Prince shared Schulenberg as a doctor.

Schulenberg, 46, worked for North Memorial Medical Center until at least the day of Prince's death, but he has since left the job. Lesa Bader, a spokeswoman for the health care system, said North Memorial's personnel records were private and she couldn't comment on why Schulenberg no longer works there. According to the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice website, Schulenberg has not been subjected to any disciplinary or corrective action in Minnesota or other states. He's a 1995 graduate of the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine. His license status is listed as active. It expires Oct. 31 of this year.

May 12, 2016 - Prince's autopsy, particularly the toxicology report, may clarify whether prescription painkillers played any part in his death.

Determining whether the music superstar died of a drug overdose will likely involve not only tests of his blood, urine, liver tissue and fluid from the eyes, it also will require compiling evidence from Prince's medicine cabinet, his medical history and possibly information from witnesses and those who knew him. Authorities haven't said when results of the April 22 autopsy will be released, only that it would take weeks.

WHAT'S ALREADY KNOWN?

Questions about Prince's health surfaced April 15, when his plane made an emergency stop in Moline, Illinois. He was found unconscious aboard the aircraft, a law enforcement official who was briefed on the investigation told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media. While the plane was on the tarmac, the official said, first responders gave Prince a shot of Narcan, an antidote used to reverse suspected opioid overdoses. The official said investigators are looking at whether Prince overdosed on the flight and whether an overdose killed him six days later.

One possibility is the powerful painkiller Percocet or something similar, the official said. A medical examiner completed the physical autopsy in four hours on April 22, the day after Prince was found dead at age 57. His remains were later cremated. The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office did not release a preliminary cause of death based on the autopsy alone and has said the toxicology results would take weeks.

WHY DOES IT TAKE SO LONG?

Toxicology reports can be based on multiple rounds of tests, escalating in sophistication as pathologists, toxicologists and chemists work together to answer questions, according to the College of American Pathologists. First, basic screens are run on blood and urine to detect categories such as opiates, amphetamines, marijuana, alcohol and barbiturates. Confirming those results can take days and sometimes requires repeated testing.

More tests are then run to identify each chemical's unique fingerprint by measuring its mass and other traits. Sometimes, a specialty lab is called in to test for specific drugs. Finding multiple drugs in a person's system can add time to the process. Tests typically are run on various fluids and tissues including bile and the eye. "The blood only gives you a snapshot of exactly what was happening at the moment of death," said Dr. Bruce Levy, a pathologist at the University of Illinois at Chicago. "By looking at other body fluids or tissues, you can get more of a sense of history of a person's use of a drug or medication."

Judge says no hurry in determining Prince claims
June 27, 2016 A Minnesota judge overseeing the legal proceedings surrounding Prince's estate said Monday there will be no quick decisions on who should be allowed to inherit from the late megastar. Prince died in late April of an accidental drug overdose, with no known will or children. A sister and five half-siblings are in line to inherit, with several others claiming a tie to the performer.

While attorneys for Tyka Nelson, Prince's sister, and others pushed for a quick resolution to establish control of an estate estimated at $300 million or more, the court first needs to set ground rules for which claimants can be considered. Noting the complexity of claims and parentage law, Carver County District Judge Kevin Eide said he may forward his eventual decision to an appellate court for immediate review, drawing out the process even longer. "This case is perhaps unique in the state of Minnesota," he said. "I want to do it right because it's important to a lot of people."

The decision on Prince's heirs will determine not just who gets Prince's current wealth and Paisley Park recording studio but also who controls his music and the image he cultivated over four chart-topping decades. Industry experts have said his earnings potential after death is vast. More than two dozen attorneys crowded into the small courtroom in the Minneapolis suburb of Chaska to jostle over the ground rules for who may ultimately be considered.

Attorneys for Tyka Nelson pushed the court to take a narrow view of heir eligibility. Nelson's claim and that of several half-siblings are firmly based on legal documents that establish Prince's parentage, including a divorce record for his parents. They said claimants who have asserted that Prince's parents were someone other than John Nelson and Mattie Shaw should be rejected. Brian Dillon, an attorney for Tyka Nelson, urged Eide to act quickly. "There is some urgency in determining who are the rightful heirs," Dillon said. "We are now more than 2 1/2 months out from (Prince's) death."

Claimants who disputed Prince's parentage pushed for a broader view of eligibility. James Selmer represents Venita Jackson Leverette, who claims that Prince's real father was Alfred Jackson Sr. and that she is Prince's half-sister. Selmer said his client's claim is strong and could be backed up by a DNA test if permitted by the court.

Fri, 29 Jul 2016 - A judge in the US state of Minnesota dismisses claims by 29 people who said they were Prince's heirs, including five men who said they were his father.

The singer died in April from an accidental overdose of the painkiller fentanyl, but he did not leave a will and did not have any children. Reports in Minnesota say his estate may be worth at least $300m (£227m). A judge has now ordered genetic tests to be carried out on six people with claims to be relatives of the singer. Four siblings or half-siblings, as well as two women believed to be a niece and a grand-niece, will be tested. Genetic tests had already ruled out the claim of a man in jail in Colorado who said he was Prince's son.

And, as part of the latest ruling, Judge Kevin Eide decided a claim by a Georgia woman, who said she and Prince were once married, was not valid. She had said the CIA was keeping their marriage record secret. Minneapolis' Star Tribune newspaper said the case was thrown out against five men who said they were Prince's father. Prince was found unresponsive in a lift at his Paisley Park Studios on the morning of 21 April, local officials said. First responders tried to revive him with CPR but he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Prescription painkillers were in the 57-year-old's possession following his death, officials told US media in May. He is believed to have suffered from knee and hip pain from years of performing. According to the autopsy report, Prince self-administered fentanyl, an opioid many times more powerful than heroin. A singer, songwriter, arranger and multi-instrumentalist, Prince recorded more than 30 albums. His best known hits include Let's Go Crazy and When Doves Cry.

Numerous opioid painkillers were found at US singer Prince's home shortly after his death last year, unsealed court documents show. Some of the pills discovered at Prince's Paisley Park estate in Minnesota had prescriptions in the name of his friend and bodyguard. But the documents do not offer evidence about the source of the fentanyl that killed the singer on 21 April 2016. Medical examiners have concluded that he died from an accidental overdose. No-one has been charged over the death of the 57-year-old singer. The court documents were kept sealed until Monday because prosecutors feared potential witnesses might flee or potential evidence be destroyed.

They show that some of the pills found at Prince's home were labelled "Watson 853" - the opioid painkiller acetaminophen-hydrocodone. They are used in the treatment of pain, rheumatoid arthritis and coughs. Investigators were "made aware by witnesses that were interviewed, that Prince recently had a history of going through withdrawals, which are believed to be the result of the abuse of prescription medication," the documents say.

But the documents, unsealed on Monday as the year-long investigation into Prince's death continues, revealed nothing about how the pop superstar got the fentanyl that actually killed him. Prince was 57 when he was found alone and unresponsive in a lift at his Paisley Park home in Minneapolis on April 21 last year. The documents show authorities searched Paisley Park, mobile phone records of Prince's associates, and Prince's email accounts to try to determine how he got the fentanyl, a synthetic drug 50 times more powerful than heroin. They do not reveal answers, but do shed light on Prince's struggle with addiction in the days before he died. Oxycodone was not listed as a cause of Prince's death.

A search of Prince's home yielded numerous pills in various containers. Some were in prescription bottles for Kirk Johnson, Prince's long-time friend. Medics revived him with two doses of a drug that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.

One court document says Dr Michael Todd Schulenberg, who saw Prince on April 7, 2016, and again on April 20, admitted to authorities that he prescribed oxycodone for Prince the same day as the emergency plane landing "but put the prescription in Kirk Johnson's name for Prince's privacy". Authorities also searched Mr Johnson's phone records to see who he was communicating with in the month before Prince died. Dr Schulenberg has an active medical licence and is currently practising family medicine in Minnesota. His lawyer Amy Conners said last week that there are no restrictions on his licence. Investigators have not interviewed either Mr Johnson or Dr Schulenberg since the hours after Prince died, an official with knowledge of the investigation said.

Prince did not have a mobile phone and authorities searched multiple email accounts that belonged to him as they tried to determine who he was communicating with and where he got the drugs that killed him, according to the search warrants. The documents do not reveal the outcome of the email searches. The documents say some of the drugs in Prince's bedroom were in a suitcase with the name "Peter Bravestrong" on it. Police believe Bravestrong was an alias that Prince used when he travelled. The suitcase also contained lyrics for the song U Got The Look that appeared to be in Prince's handwriting.
