Now that a President has unlimited power, what can the next Democratic President do?

Trump loyalists have now set the precedent that a President cannot be impeached for abuse of power. That opens many possibilities. Our imagination is the limit. But we have lots of it.

For instance, now he/she has no limitations to the pardoning powers of the President. So they can issue a complete pardon to all illegal aliens in the country. And then pardon any who enter from then on. It could become a weekly routine. But there is no reason to stop there. The Democratic President can use their power to win the next elections. And to make sure that the President that follows them is also a Democrat. So how about if President Sanders, or President Klobuchar calls on illegals to go out and vote. I mean, Trump loyalists have been animate about defending Trump's "freedom of speech". So then he can tell them that he will pardon any of them who get caught. He could also send out the military to do "exercises" and cordon off streets on predominantly Republican districts on election day.

The possibilities that Trump and his loyalists and lackeys have opened are endless.

And before any Trump loyalist comes whining, remember that it was Republicans who started this. And don't start with the nonsense about Obama having done anything. He didn't, of course. But if he had... it's still the Republican's fault. They controlled the House after 2010. And the Senate the last two years. If he engaged in any abuse of power, it's too late now. They should have impeached him then when you had the chance.

Trump loyalists have no idea the kind of can of worms they have opened. Or did you think that the Deep State would not make you pay dearly?

Sorry, the unlimited power can of worms, was opened by Lincoln and has gotten worse over the decades.

Maybe sell guns to drug cartels and jail whistleblowers.

    Oh wait.

    That was the last guy.

Absolutely. Let's impeach him/her/alphabet just on principle.

And believe you me.... it will get much much worse. Until a President decides that this "Democratic Republic" experiment needs to end. You have seen nothing yet. And Trump loyalists will have no grounds to complain on. They are very much complicit. I alone (and a few of us) will have the moral authority to whine.

Dirty Donalds claimof having almighty power over the justice department flies in the face of what Alexander Hamilton said, which was, "There is NO LIBERTY,if the power of judging be not separated from the legislative and executive powers."

Trump now feels he holds absolute power with no restraints. We can thank complicit followers and a gutless republican group in Congress. Yes, it will get much worse. Firing the DNI for reporting truth to power is only a start. Trump knows no bottom and has great distain for the Constitution and the United States of America.

I would be worried about a president Sanders (or other D) trying to use a bogus National Emergency declaration to redirect funding for climate change, or medicare 4 all, or something similar. Thank god courts have been shooting that one down after Rs in congress thought that was a good power idea to bequeath the POTUS. As if the executive needed more power.

I generally support taking power away from the govt. What powers do you want to take away from Trump? Before you answer, keep in mind that my next question may be if you wanted to take those powers away from Obama too...

Signing statements and executive orders designed to legislate. And repeal of any legislation giving POTUS power to take military action against the broad term of "terrorists" at a minimum.

And recently, possibly the power to retain any "acting" cabinet position for more than 6 months. That seems like enough time to find someone to get confirmed by congress. Then again, a hostile Senate may stonewall confirming anyone.

To be realistic though, unlimited power is only possible if you control both the presidency and at least one chamber of congress. And your members of congress must, for the most part, have zero integrity (we can probably afford one or two Romneys). I guess that shouldn't be a problem for either side.

Yes. That's a great example. And though courts have ruled against it, SCOTUS hasn't. We might just finally get the long awaited universal healthcare sooner than expected.

Pretty long winded for a false preference. The only precedent set was by the Democrats, which is impeachment is now a political weapon.

Actually, controlling more than a third of the Senate is enough. And they don't even have to be corrupt anymore. They just have to follow the precedent that this Senate left.
