Look, I completely agree that Obama is a fish out of water when it comes to the Military. It's not his thing, he doesn't have the experience for it. This whole red line was his way of punting, though it was an honest punt because honestly, who thought that Chemical Weapons would actually be used. No one.
That said, a decision like that isn't just made on a whim. I doubt he does much militarily without Military advice. And considering his experience, I'll bet he gets a Lot of advice from them.

That said, I don't think he is the complete waste of skin that you portray him. He has his good points (as did Bush Jr even if he was near universally hated), they just aren't rooted in the military.

Hey. If Obama had gotten some international support, he'd have already launched the missiles into Syria, and upheld his "red line". He punted not because of his red line, but because no one else had confidence in him.

As for chemical weapons, it is supposedly a violation of "international law". So where are the "internationals" ? Doesn't matter if folks did or did not anticipate it. Why don't you Canadians go and perform a punitive "limited and narrow" strike on somebody in Syria then ?

As for Obama, its an argument beyond this thread. But the man has not done one thing to improve the future of America. He is incompetent beyond belief. A perfect storm of disaster. Stupid. Untouchable. Arrogant.

One last thing. I knew you were young when you blamed Nixon with regard to the Paris Peace Talks. You were most uninformed on that.

Yeah, Cameron getting voted down was a lot of egg on his and Obamas face. It's a quagmire and I don't think Obama (or any major power really) knows what to do. He is an extremely aware and intelligent politician. Putting it on Congress allows him to save face no matter which direction it goes.

I disagree though, I think (well his first term anyway) was an example of doing the best he could with what he had to work with. He (and everyone else probably) figured he was going to be a one term president (with many doing there best to see that happen) and so wanted to make the biggest and longest lasting impression he could. He has done some good things (Obamacare aside) that have actually helped people.

My issues with him center more around his ideas of personal privacy, the NDAA signing, reauthorizing the Patriot act, and Guantanamo.

I think though, this Syria issue may very well define his entire presidency if it goes south.

As for Nixon and the peace talks...how so? I'm only going from this story
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21768668 so If you have other info, please, I'd love to read it.

Well, his NSA has gone ballistic in violating everyone's rights. He's a compulsive liar. And we are a magnificent house of economic cards. You Canucks are not, as you have been infinitely more honest and thrifty. But when we crash again, we will pull you, and so much of the rest of the world, with us.

Wish I was wrong. You watch and see.

Yeah, I really really hope not. If there is one (and probably the only these days) thing I love about Harper as my PM is that he is an amazing economist and between him and Jim Flaherty, they have a pretty good handle on our economy.

I would hate to see the US collapse, but part of me wonders if that is what it would take to finally get some to wake up. Wall-Street especially, seems to have completely ignored the reasons of the last financial collapse, and seems poised to repeat those same mistakes. I mean, heck, a hacked twitter post on Associated Press caused a huge drop. 1 friggen Twitter post.

Which he does on purpose. NO ADULT can be that stupid .....

If he really has a problem pronouncing 'Corpsmen' - all he has to do is ask a 5th grader how to pronounce it and they'll teach him.....

Maybe Obama had been listening to Bush too much.

The military belongs to the leaders of nations only if that leader is a facist. Otherwise, it's OUR military, subject to OUR laws, not HIS whims.

King Obama, Racist, Fascist, Muslim and Traitor, makes these "me, mine, I" flubs far too frequently...and almost always the willing quislings in the medea refuse to make an issue of it.

This is a huge deal, signifying yet again that King Obama, Racist, Fascist, Muslim and Traitor, has serious immaturity issues related to his self-identity and the job he is supposed to be doing, but isn't.

Not only their Tricare but he's cut their meals down from 3 to 2 a day! Sure hope he gives them back the one he took away once they're actually fighting HIS war!

Oh, don't forget his orders to the IRS to violate First Amendment rights, his orders to Dick Holder to wire-tap the AP, his orders to Dick Holder to start Fast and Furious, his unconstitutional MessiahCare scam, and a whole bunch of other scandals the medea refuses to cover.

You should perhaps recall that King Obama, Racist, Fascist, and Traitor, wanted DISABLED US VETERANS to have their private health insurance cover their war-related injuries.

And commanders are in the thick of things side by side with their men...they have earned the trust of their men and so they can call them theirs. Obama has NOT been in the thick of anything with anybody in the military and he certainly hasn't gone through hell and back with any of our boys in uniform!

Way to disregard the four times he used 'our' within the tiny segment you presented! Even within the very same sentence you decided to highlight! Bravo!!!!

When I see Obama do this: [IMG] and this: [IMG] and then and only then will I believe that Obama might be worth a smidgeon of the respect and adoration you are giving him.

    King Obama has troops?

The US military follows the orders of the Commander in Chief, even when he's an illegal alien selling them out at every turn, apparently.

The Mayor can't seem to lay his finger on the president the US troops followed out of fear of anything. Perhaps you can disenlighten an old veteran by inventing some phony circumstances, okay?

Nonsense, it's not HIS military anymore than the WH is HIS house or AF1 is HIS plane.

Because he wants ZERO blame if anything goes wrong. C'mon we all know this. Thats' why he's passed the buck over to Congress, after puffing his chest out in the beginning. He will REVEL is blaming anything and everything on Republicans because he's done it from day 1. And people wonder why those on the right can't get along with him. He brings it all on himself because he's not a leader. Even Putin hates him.

Sadly, Obama doing that would be for show. Deep down, the man simply isn't that kind of person. It would just be a photo op, which is generally his entire career. One giant show. He's not real. Bush, love or hate him was sincere. You knew he said what he meant even if you didn't' agree with it. Can anyone honestly say Obama comes off as sincere?
