You should learn not to project.

It was an attempt at extortion in the true sense of the word and it failed.

extortion: Offense of illegally obtaining money or other benefit or compelling some action through coercion or menace, specially by a public officer acting in his or her official capacity

Second, the shutdown was part of the extortion attempt and it failed because Obama was too smart to let Cruz and his gang get away with it. Much like negotiating with terrorists - you dont. And medicaid expansion is absolutely part of the ACA. How can you be so adamantly against it when you don't even know of this rather important part of the law?

    http://www.medicaid.gov/affordablecareact/affordable-care-act.html

Third, thank you for highlighting the right wing media blitz that has continually dealt with distortions. Like using anecdotal evidence extrapolating it to massive job losses due ot obamacare - never happened. Like tens of thousands of workers that were "demoted" to parttime - never happened. Like more part time jobs created than full time jobs - never happened. Like reporting the UPS decision to cancel spousal policies - did happened but only for those employees who were covered by their spouses - nobody lost coverage.

Fourth, I guess you are ignorant of the role of negative motivation in shaping public opinion. Those 40 odd votes helped to ceate Fear Uncertainty and Doubt amongst the electorate. An electorate that is pretty damn ignorant of politics regardless of partisanship, let alone the complexities of the healthcare system. The shutdown effected effected funding, the sequestration effected funding and the constant obsession of the congress resulted in them doing less than any congress in the history of the nation - but that didn't have any effect.

What an enormous flim flam. You telling me the young and healthy, many of whom are saddled with huge student loans could save enough to cover their healthcosts sometime in the future? When an appendectomy costs $10 or $15k how long do you think it would take a young person to save up that much? The HSA isn't a solution, its a gimmick.

Oh yes, abrogate the states rights and regulations wrt to sale of insurance. Funny how on the one hand the right screams about federal usurpation of state power and on the other have no problem with doing exactly that if it fits their own agenda.

But why not listen to a reasoned analysis of this plan from a healthcare giant with a vested interest.

Or the Center for Health Insurance Reforms at georgetown university:

Great Idea. Only a decade or so behind the rest of the developed world, but a great idea nonetheless, that I am sure will be implemented.

also a great idea, but not just limited to doctors. In sue happy america, a few simple modifications like "loser pays" would dramatically reduce the entire suing for profit industry.

Treating illegals has nothing to do with hospital closures.
The rest of the civilized world has just as many issues with legally dealing with illegal immigrants.

do you have any analysis of this plan? Who puts up the money? Who administers it? How much would these subsidies cover?

Well I am glad that you see that any re-engineering plan of such magnitude needs tweaking as implementation rolls out.

The federal government has not taken over healthcare. Insurance companies remain in business for profit, so do hospitals and doctor and suppliers.

Might want to actually get your facts correct before spouting partisan propaganda. You definitely have mastered "fail".

The thing is, given the amount of time Team Obama should have been working on just the website alone, much less the ACA, it should have been able to handle the load. It's not a good sign when you get better startup service from the World of Warcraft servers set up years ago than you do the ACA portal. It's not exactly building confidence in the rest of the program.

Romney care was a state issue, it had a very successful launch. It didn't kick 5 Million people off their insurance and it didn't cost possibly 100 Million to lose their coverage.

    RIGHT

Now that is a fair comment.

Again, I refer you back to the initial implementation of RomneyCare. The website sucked.

The way "IT" contracts are given out in washington is appalling. I suppose that could be said for most governments, but in this day and age, if you were in private business and needed a very large website built, you'd go straight to a web development firm and so should the gov't.

How many people were kicked off their current plans because of Romney care?

RomneyCare did not have a very successful launch. there were website problems, the first month sign up was .5% of target and it was repeatedly tweeked by the state legislature to correct the glitches and conflicts.

I have no idea where you get this ridiculous number of 100 million.

All of those people who are getting their coverage cancelled, will be able to replace it immediately regardless of their health. they will not be turned down, unlike the situation before the ACA became law.

I don't blame the insurance companies for the heavy handed marketing approach, but they had to pre-empt the anticipated large scale churn when the lousy plans they had been selling became totally obsolete.

But for some reason the business savvy republicans seem totally oblivious to pretty standard pre-emptive customer retention strategies as these insurance companies try to make the best of the situation during a transition that they will all have to make or abandon the industry.

None, because Mass had already eliminated medical underwriting and pre-exisiting exclusions in the 90's. Romneycare also does not exclude lifetime and annual benefit caps. there are a number of other Obamacare provisions that make the issue of "grandfathering" pertinent to its implementation but not romneycare.

Perhaps you have noticed that all of the provisions that have prompted some insurers to cancel policies are of direct benefit to policy holders.
